Union Pacific Railroad Collection

Abstract

The Union Pacific Railroad Collection (1828-1986) is comprised of the original corporate records of the Union Pacific Railroad's operations in Southern Nevada, Utah, and Southern California, particularly focusing on Las Vegas and Los Angeles. The collection documents the purchase of Stewart ranch and the construction of the original depot and town which became modern Las Vegas. The collection also contains the records of the Las Vegas Land & Water Company (LVL&W), a subsidiary of the railroad formed in 1905 to handle the railroad's land transactions.

Southern Nevada Chapter of the American War Mothers Organization Records

Abstract

The Southern Nevada Chapter of the American War Mothers Organization Records (1947-1995) are comprised primarily of scrapbooks containing correspondence and minutes, numerous newspaper clippings, and photographs. Also included are pamphlets on American War Mothers organizational rituals, bylaws, history, ceremonial ephemera, flags, and a Henderson Chapter Charter. The materials also contain items relating to the North Las Vegas Chapter, the Rose Garden Chapter, and the State Chapter.

The Janet MacEachern Papers (1960-1988) consist of programs, correspondence, financial reports, rosters, clippings, scrapbooks, and photographs relating to her work on various Las Vegas, Nevada, Boulder City, Nevada, and State legislative and political advisory boards.

Marshall L. Wright Collection on the Riviera Hotel

Abstract

The Marshall L. Wright Collection on the Riviera Hotel (1944-1956) consists of a disassembled scrapbook, a small amount of newspaper clippings, and correspondence from Marshall L. Wright. He served as the general manager of the Riviera Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada beginning in 1954 and remained in the role through the hotel’s opening on April 20, 1955. By late 1955, he moved to a similar role at the Flamingo Las Vegas. Materials document the opening of the Riviera including black-and-white photographs of the construction of the hotel, press kits, brochures, and other promotional material.

Freda Klein Papers

Abstract

The Freda Klein Papers (1967-1997) include a detailed biography and personal reflection penned by Klein, as well as a photocopied scrapbook. The scrapbook is comprised of correspondence and newspaper clippings that detail her career with the State of Nevada Employment Security Department and volunteer work with the Henderson Chamber of Commerce, Private Industry Council, and Soroptimist International of Henderson, Nevada.
