Chip Chat Newsletters and Catalogues

Abstract

The Chip Chat Newsletters and Catalogues date from 1994 to 2011 and contain Chip Chat issues 1, 2, and 4 through 49. Chip Chat was a newsletter produced by Douglas Saito and circulated throughout the gambling chip collectors' community. The newsletters were self-published by Saito. Generally three copies were produced a year, in some years there was more content, in others less. The newsletters focused on selling chips between collectors, tips for becoming a sucessful collector, the history of chips, and the state of the hobby.

O.C. "Boots" LeBoutillier Paintings

Abstract

The collection consists of two watercolor paintings donated and autographed by Las Vegas resident O.C. “Boots” LeBoutillier. The materials were painted and signed by Robert Carlin depicting the crash of Baron Manfred Von Richthofen's (the "Red Baron") airplane on April 21, 1918. LeBoutillier is also depicted in the paintings flying above as the "Red Baron" crashes after being shot down. The paintings were created approximately between 1970 to 1979.

Alfred Reynolds Robbins Diplomas

Abstract

The Alfred Reynolds Robbins Diploma collection consists of one grammar school diploma for Alfred Reynolds Robbins from Goodsprings Grammar School in Clark County, Nevada entitling him to enter any high school in the State of Nevada dated June 1, 1911, and a diploma from Clark County High School from May 26, 1916. This material was formerly known as the Julie Robbins Collection.

Scrapbook of Newspaper Clippings on Franklin Delano Roosevelt

Abstract

The Scrapbook of Newspaper Clippings on Franklin Delano Roosevelt (1945-1951) consists of a single scrapbook of newspaper clippings documenting the death and mourning of President Franklin Roosevelt in 1945. Most of the clippings are derived from the Cleveland Press and The Plain Dealer. A few articles pertain to the first year of the Harry S. Truman Administration and the Korean War.

Dennis Lee Askew Papers

Abstract

The Dennis Lee Askew papers date from 1966 to 2013 and contain "Rock Talk" columns from the Las Vegas Sun newspaper, posters, photographs, correspondence, audio cassette tapes, one DVD of the "Rock Talk" television special, and newspaper clippings.

Coates Playing Cards Collection

Abstract

The Coates Playing Cards Collection (1920s-1960s) consists of sixty-six decks of playing cards collected by Mrs. Phillip A. Coates. The collection includes promotional decks from various businesses, including the Southern Pacific Lines railroad and the Grace Line steamship company. The majority of the decks are of a narrower design to be used in playing canasta or bridge, with many being multi-deck sets.
