Karl Carsony Papers

Abstract

The Karl Carsony Papers (1918-2011) are comprised of photographs, newspaper clippings, ephemera, and artifacts representing Karl (Schrom) Carsony's acrobatic career and personal life. The bulk of the materials in this collection date from approximately the early 1950s through the late 1970s. The materials also include vacation photographs of Karl (Schrom) Carsony and his wife, Margot Meyers. The materials also include promotional photographs, posters, and fliers for the Carsony Brothers, which was an acrobatic show consisting of Karl Carsony and his twin brothers, Joe and Bert Schrom.

Maureen Mackey Papers

Abstract

This collection is comprised of personal papers and photographs of Reverend Maureen E. Mackey, M.D., physiatrist and co-founder of Rainbow Praise Church in Las Vegas, Nevada. The collection contents span the dates of 1922 to 2014 and details Dr. Mackey's life, including her educational accomplishments, personal life, and religious life. This collection also contains personal papers and photographs of Dr. Mackey's twin brother, Thomas Mackey, III, who passed away from AIDS in 1992. This collection also contains various photographs of Dr. Mackey's parents and family.

Joan Swift Papers

Abstract

The Joan Swift Papers (1989-1994) document Swift's activities as county recorder for Clark County, Nevada. The contents of this collection include photographs, speeches, congratulatory letters, candidate night invitations, county elected official biographies, campaign materials, Clark County newsletters, and news clippings. Photographs and a draft of Swift’s memoirs to her grandchildren are also included in this collection.

John R. Moser Real Estate Appraisal Records

Abstract

Collection contains nineteen real estate appraisal reports created by John R. Moser from Las Vegas and rural Southern Nevada (Lincoln and Nye counties) from approximately 1957 to 1972. The reports contain information on the market values of the properties and contextual information explaining the appraisals. This collection also contains photographs and photographic negatives depicting properties, and photographic slides of desert flora and landscapes around Nevada and Idaho such as Groom Mountain Range, White Bird Canyon, Salmon River Valley, Clover Valley, and Ruby Mountains.

Dennis McBride Collection on LGBTQ Las Vegas, Nevada

Abstract

This collection is comprised of research files dating from approximately 1980 to 2021 created by Boulder City Nevadan, Dennis McBride, primarily in support of his book, Out of the Neon Closet: A History of Gay Las Vegas on the history of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, gay, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) community in Southern Nevada. Materials in this collection also include ephemera and clippings documenting LGBTQ establishments and organizations in Las Vegas, biographies of individuals, and other issues pertinent to the LGBTQ community.

Maurice Halfon Behar Papers

Abstract

Collection is comprised of photographs, correspondence, and other documents created by Holocaust survivor Maurice Halfon Behar and his family from the 1920s to 2015. The photographs depict the Behar, Bally, and Halfon families from the 1920s to the 1950s. They show Maurice Behar as a child with his mother in France, and his parents' families in Istanbul, Turkey, and Biarritz, France.

Barbara Tabach Collection on the New Frontier Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas

Abstract

The collection contains material collected by Barbara Tabach to document the final days of the New Frontier Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada (2007). Included are brief oral history audio recordings and transcripts for approximately 50 individuals wo worked at or were customers of the New Frontier, as well as over 650 digital photographs of the people and the building. Also included is a digital video of the November 2007 implosion and a Las Vegas Sun newspaper clipping from September 1961 on the New Frontier.

Nevada CURE Records

Abstract

The Nevada CURE Records are comprised of correspondence, administrative records, case files, and research files created and collected by Mercedes Maharis from 1998 to 2009. Maharis was the founding director of Nevada CURE and co-author of the Spartacus Project Report. The collection also includes correspondence from inmates to Maharis expressing their grievances with prison personnel and the Nevada Department of Corrections as well as correspondence between Maharis and attorneys representing inmates in legal cases.

William Lin Menu Collection

Abstract

The William Lin Menu Collection dates from 1972 to 1987 and consists of more than 120 restaurant menus, employee work rules, and customer-service guidelines. Most of the menus are from Chinese restaurants in the San Francisco Bay Area. Other menus describe Chinese and American cuisines at restaurants in Las Vegas, Nevada, and Santa Barbara, California. The collection also includes Chinese restaurant menus from Hong Kong, a 1980 Lufthansa Airlines menu, and late 1970s menus from the Goodtime Charlie’s, Lam’s, Peking Chinese, and Silver Dragon restaurants in Las Vegas.
