Abstract

Oral history interview with Rachel Gibson conducted by Kay Long and Caryll Batt Dziedziak on August 25, 1998, September 01, 1998, September 14, 1998, and April 07, 1999 for the Women's Research Institute of Nevada (WRIN) Las Vegas Women Oral History Project. Gibson opens her interview discussing her family's migration history, living in Yerington, Nevada, and her immediate family. Gibson then describes her life in Tonopah, Nevada. She talks about education in the area, the social clubs, and recreation activities available.

Goodwin on April 16, 2008, April 21, 2008, and June 15, 2009 for the Women's Research Institute of Nevada (WRIN) Las Vegas Women Oral History Project. Williams begins her interview discussing her family and their performance background. Williams then discusses moving to Las Vegas, Nevada from New York with her young family. Williams describes her involvement with the local Democratic party and work on election campaigns.

Margaret Price opens the interview by describing the family's move from Ohio to Las Vegas, Nevada for Frank's health in 1950. Price then moves on to describe her experiences and the people she met while working as a waitress at the El Rancho Hotel and Casino. Margaret and Frank Price then discuss Margaret's career at the Dunes, and the variety of entertainment acts available in the 1950s.

Rivera opens her interview by discussing her youth as a Latina in Arizona in the 1960s. Rivera then talks about schooling conditions and discrimination. She describes her first job at the Solomon Bill School District and, while there were many Hispanic students, there were not many Hispanic teachers or student leaders.

Hickey begins her interviews describing growing up in Havana, Cuba in the 1930s, getting married at 16, and her life with her family in Cuba until they felt compelled to leave in 1960 to the United States. Hickey recounts her transition to American culture and moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1964.

Oral history interview with Joanne Pattiani Molen conducted by Irene Rostine on January 25, 1997 for the Women's Research Institute of Nevada (WRIN) Las Vegas Women Oral History Project. Molen discusses moving to Las Vegas, Nevada with her husband. She then describes her first telecommunications job working for Citizen Utilities where she learned to operate telephone and faced gender discrimination and wage inequality. Molen explains how that job helped her career with the Southern Nevada Telephone Company.

She describes rising through the company starting as an operator and ending as a community relations coordinator.

McQuary then talks about getting recruited to perform in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Sahara Hotel and Casino while performing at a fair. McQuary goes on to describe her dance career in Las Vegas and the other casinos where she worked.
