Abstract

Oral history interview with David and Heidi Straus conducted by Barbara Tabach on November 06, 2015 for the Southern Nevada Jewish Heritage Project. The Straus family talks about growing up in Las Vegas, Nevada, the Rancho Nevada Estates neighborhood, and changes in the city since the 1960s. David and Heidi talk about their parents and their careers as a lawyer and business owner, respectively.

Oral history interview with Richard and Gertrude Rudiak with Dani Ramage conducted by Barbara Tabach on December 30, 2015 for the Southern Nevada Jewish Heritage Project. Richard talks about his father, who was an early Nevada Assemblyman and a civil rights activist. Gertrude discusses her hobby of playing the pipe organ, teaching in both secular and Jewish education, and being on many community boards.

Oral history interview with Freddie Glusman conducted by Barbara Tabach on October 29, 2015 for the Southern Nevada Jewish Heritage Project. Glusman discusses arriving in Las Vegas, Nevada as a young man in 1957 and owning clothing retail stores in casino/hotels. He also talks about the restaurant he owned, Piero's restaurant on Convention Center Drive; also the setting for scenes in the movie “Casino” (1995).

Gertrude Rudiak oral history interview

Abstract

Oral history interview with Gertrude Rudiak conducted by Claytee White on January 11th, 2007 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. Gertrude Rudiak was a local civil rights pioneer, wife of George Rudiak, and has lived in Las Vegas, Nevada since 1943. She raised her five children in Las Vegas and was active in the Jewish community. In her interview Rudiak discusses Jewish life and culture in Las Vegas.

He discusses Summerlin’s physical layout, its history, its development, and its future. He also talks about the development and future of Downtown Summerlin; its balance of private, charter, and public schools; and the ways the company selects its residential builders.
