The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) University Libraries Collection of Nevada Calendars consists of promotional calendars from organizations, institutions, and corporate bodies operating or based in Nevada from 1908 to 2016. Materials include advertising calendars from the Union Pacific Railroad, Harrah's Entertainment, Inc., and the Harold's Club in Reno, Nevada. It also includes calendars from businesses and organizations in Las Vegas, Nevada that no longer exist.
Collection is comprised of the papers of Diana Crites dating from 1976 to 1990 and includes poems, short stories, two novels, and many recipes and recipe booklets published for the Nevada Power Company (NPC). Also included are an in-house NPC phonebook, a booklet on the operations center for NPC, news clippings, and power saving instruction materials.
Jackie Robinson Groundbreaking Event on October 29, 2014 and recorded for the African Americans in Las Vegas: a Collaborative Oral History Project. The event marked the construction start ofthe All Net Resort & Arena, a $1.4 billion arena, hotel and shopping center project in Las Vegas, Nevada. In this interview, Conerly discusses her early life in Tallulah, Louisiana and moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1970. Jarmilla McMillan-Arnold’s father, Dr. James B. McMillan, was the first black dentist in the state of Nevada. Dr. McMillan’s colleagues consisted of Dr. West, the first black medical doctor in the state, and Dr. Ice, the first black surgeon in Nevada. This interview highlights and archives the solid foundation upon which Nevada’s black community was built. Jarmilla recalls early memories of growing up as the daughter of Las Vegas NAACP president Dr. McMillan. She was born in Detroit, Michigan, to a Caucasian and Indian mother who was a professional dancer. Jarmilla’s parents separated when she was very young and as a result she was raised by her paternal grandmother who owned a restaurant in Pontiac, Michigan. Jarmilla describes her grandmother as being well-known and highly regarded in the community where she maintained her business. Jarmilla attended Catholic schools in Detroit, Pontiac, and Las Vegas.
