Diana Crites Papers (MS-00374)

Abstract

Collection is comprised of the papers of Diana Crites dating from 1976 to 1990 and includes poems, short stories, two novels, and many recipes and recipe booklets published for the Nevada Power Company (NPC). Also included are an in-house NPC phonebook, a booklet on the operations center for NPC, news clippings, and power saving instruction materials.

Biographical / Historical Note

Home Economist and writer Diana Crites graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1967 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics and Business Administration. In 1968, Crites was employed as Home Economist for Nevada Power Company, a position she held until 1974, when she was promoted to Consumer Consultant in charge of energy conservation education.

Crites was past president of Southern Nevada Home Economics Association, Las Vegas Gamma Phi Beta Sorority Alumni Association, and vice president of the Las Vegas Chapter of American Women in Radio and Television. She was active in women's issues through the 1970s and 1980s and served as Coordinator of the southern region's Nevadans for the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) and the Democratic Women's Club. She had many published newsletters, articles, short stories, and poems to her credit.

Diana Crites passed away in 1996.

Acquisition Note

Materials were donated in 1996 by Susan Solick (sister of Diana Crites); accession number 96-15.

Materials were processed by Joyce Moore in 2015 as part of a legacy finding aid conversion project. Joyce Moore revised and enhanced the collection description to bring it into compliance with current professional standards.
