H. E. Hazard Real Estate Maps and Photographs

Abstract

H. E. Hazard Real Estate Maps and Photographs date from 1960 to 1980 and contain maps and aerial photographs, primarily of Las Vegas and Clark County, Nevada. Compiled by former Nevada legislator and realtor Harry Edward "Hap" Hazard (1894-1971), the collection includes more than sixty plat, topographic, engineering, sales, utility, zoning, and real estate maps, as well as twenty-two black-and-white aerial photographs.

Jim Rogers Papers

Abstract

The Jim Rogers Papers (1977-2014) are primarily comprised of episodes of local Las Vegas, Nevada television program, Inside Nevada with Jim Rogers which aired from 2009 to 2014 on KVBC-TV (now KSNV). The collection also contains fifty-nine segments of The Dawn and Jim Show which Rogers hosted with former First Lady of Nevada Dawn Gibbons. Also included is a video of Rogers' 75th birthday party taken shortly before his passing in 2014, and three large scrapbooks with newspaper clippings of local Las Vegas television stations content, advertising, and special features. The collection also includes the Channel 3 showing of Rogers' "Celebration of Life" ceremony after his passing in 2014 at Artemus Ham Hall at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. This collection is entirely digital video files.

The Patrick Egger Las Vegas Real Estate Records (1969-2012) contain new housing development brochures, proposed and preliminary plans for housing, apartment, and mobile home developments, and building companies market studies. Also included are bulletins, maps, reports of property and home price increases, surveys of commercial space availability, and analyses of general growth patterns in the Southern Nevada area.

Abstract

The collection is comprised of shooting logs and raw video footage created for the documentary, Stripped and Teased: Tales from Las Vegas Women (1998). The collection includes video interviews and transcripts from approximately 1995 to 1998 of women working in Las Vegas, Nevada from a variety of backgrounds. Subjects include individuals such as Mayor Jan Jones, Representative Shelley Berkley, Claudine Williams, Thalia Dondero, Joyce Marshall, Hattie Canty, Sister Rosemary, Fluff LeCoque, and others. The collection includes footage of Las Vegas events and street scenes from a variety of periods.

Q. B. Bush Papers

Abstract

The Q. B. Bush Papers are comprised of Q. B. Bush's personal papers dating from 1957 to 2018 and document Bush's work in Westside Las Vegas, Nevada casinos including the Moulin Rouge, Town Tavern, and the El Morocco. The collection also documents Bush's involvement with the Dealers Security Association and the association's effort to provide better working conditions for African American casino employees. Included are both original photographs and copies of photographs that document the African American casinos where Bush worked, as well as the Bush family at various events.

Hugh H. Brown Papers

The Hugh Henry Brown Papers consist of professional and personal papers (1902-1927) from Hugh Henry Brown, who was a lawyer in Tonopah, Nevada. The professional communication focuses on Brown's law practice dealing primarily with mining and railroad companies in Central Nevada. The papers also contain receipts from purchases made by Brown or his wife, Marjorie Moore Brown.

The Lamar and Patricia Marchese papers (1959-2015) contain awards, correspondence (both professional and personal), a Clark County Services and Facilities Directory, newspaper and magazine clippings, pamphlets, Parks and Recreation information, KNPR events and newsletters, art exhibits brochures, and musical performances brochures. The collection chronicles the contributions of the long-time Las Vegas community leaders through photographs, speeches, an interview done with Lamar Marchese, professional papers, audiovisual materials, Las Vegas Centennial Board (LVCB) end of year report, and a LVCB book.

The Richard and Sheilagh Brooks Papers (1919-2003) are comprised of materials collected during their tenure as professors of Anthropology and Archaeology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). Included are correspondence, research papers, photographs, reports, books, article reviews, and student scholarship. There is also a file on reburial issues that contains correspondence and an amendment to Nevada State law regarding the handling of exhumed bodies.

Abstract

The Robert L. Forbuss papers (1945-2011) are comprised of the personal papers of Las Vegas, Nevada educator and businessman, Robert L. "Bob" Forbuss. The collection materials include photographs of Forbuss throughout his life, including his early childhood, as well as some photographs of his mother, Marjorie Forbuss, during the 1940s and 1950s. The collection documents Forbuss's early childhood through adulthood and includes materials such as personal correspondence and Forbuss's baby book. There are also papers documenting Forbuss's professional life including his involvement with local politics and businesses. The collection includes records for J&B Strategic Alliances, LLC., a consulting company that he co-founded with former Las Vegas mayor, Jan Jones.

Valerie Pida Trust Records

Abstract

The Valerie Pida Trust Records (1987-1993) are comprised of records documenting efforts by Edward "Ted" Quirk, an attorney and a board member of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) Foundation, to establish a trust for Valerie Pida, a UNLV student who had battled Hodgkin's lymphoma since the age of thirteen. Pida was a student at UNLV from 1985 to 1991 and was a cheerleader for the Runnin' Rebels basketball team. The records include correspondence, newspaper clippings, financial statements, and receipts that document the establishment and activities of the foundation, which operated until 1993.
