Biographical / Historical Note
James Earl "Jim" Rogers was born September 15, 1938 and moved with his family to Las Vegas, Nevada from Los Alamos, New Mexico in 1953. Rogers graduated from Las Vegas High School in 1956 and eventually went on to earn degrees from the University of Arizona in accounting and law, a masters of law from the University of Southern California in 1963, and his doctorate of law from the University of Arizona in 1998.
Rogers taught legal writing at the University of Illinois Law School in 1964 before returning to Las Vegas to practice law. He founded Valley Broadcasting Company in 1971, and Rogers stopped practicing law in 1988 to focus solely on his radio and television holdings. Rogers owned Intermountain West Communications (formerly Sunbelt Broadcasting), was operator of KSNV-TV's (now KSNV) Las Vegas NBC affiliate Channel 3, and produced a television series Inside Nevada with Jim Rogers which was broadcast between 2009 and 2014. Rogers was also chancellor of the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) from 2005 to 2009. Rogers was an active and avid supporter of education, and together with his wife, Beverly, made significant contributions to a number of colleges and universities.
Inside Nevada with Jim Rogers featured guests from Nevada and focused on state, county, city, and NSHE issues and politics. Guests ranged from public officials to prominent business owners and community members. Past presidents, deans, faculty, and administrators from UNLV often appeared as guests on his show.
Rogers passed away on June 14, 2014 from cancer.

Processing Note
A summary of materials was created by Tammi Kim in 2018. To prepare the summary, the described materials were reviewed to create a contents list, estimate dates, and identify material type. A select number of optical discs were audited and files were transferred to a secure network. In 2021, Sarah Jones transferred files off 315 optical discs. Three files failed to transfer off of 2 optical discs. No access copies were created at this time. In 2023, Sarah Jones added the three oversized scrapbooks.
