Muriel Stevens Papers

Abstract

The Muriel Stevens Papers (1969-2006) consist of materials documenting Stevens' career as a television cooking show host and newspaper columnist in Las Vegas, Nevada. Newspaper articles, correspondence, ephemera, certificates, and photographs provide information about her career, and to a lesser extent, her personal life. The collection also includes publications and records documenting the Nevada State Dairy Commission and the Las Vegas hospitality industry. The Video Recordings series consists mainly of episodes of the Muriel Stevens Show.

Thomas Clark Professional Papers

Abstract

The Thomas Clark Professional Papers (1950-1998) contain materials from his tenure as a Professor of English at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), which are divided into two series. The gaming research series includes newspaper clippings, correspondence, brochures, bulletins and articles. Also included are book chapters, a glossary of terms used in the casino industry, and gambling guides. In the linguistics and teaching series there are research files, articles, speeches, correspondence, interviews, multimedia, workshops, and conference materials. Also included are files on graffiti, symbolism, ethnic and regional speech differences, language usage, and National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) material. Additional materials include colleague publications and cassette tapes of interviews from students in courses Clark taught at UNLV.

Bill Campbell Costume Designs

Abstract

The Bill Campbell Costume Designs (1954-1978) are comprised of original costume design sketches created by designer Bill Campbell for a number of Donn Arden's stage productions, including Pzazz!, Hello America, and Hello Hollywood Hello that were staged in the Crystal Room at the Desert Inn in Las Vegas, Nevada during the 1960s and 1970s. The collection also contains some sketches for other revues held in Los Angeles, California and Reno, Nevada. The majority of items in the collection are original drawings with attached fabric swatches; a number of items are xeroxed reproductions.

The Underground House of Las Vegas Collection (1964-2004) consists of newspaper clippings, magazine articles, books, photographic prints, and digital images detailing the construction and history of Girard "Jerry" B. Henderson’s "Underground House," a Las Vegas underground dwelling completed in 1978.

Kim Sisters Scrapbooks and Clippings

The Kim Sisters material date from 1959 to 1966 and 1983. It consists of two scrapbooks and one folder of photocopied materials containing newspaper clippings about the appearances of the Kim Sisters muscial group throughout the United States as well as Italy, Germany, and Spain. It also includes two record album sleeves.

Gary Sternberg Papers

Abstract

The Gary Sternberg Papers are comprised of correspondence, publications, and videos documenting Sternberg's involvement with the Las Vegas Jewish community from 1983 to 2015. Organizations represented in the collection include Congregation Ner Tamid and the Holocaust Survivors Group of Southern Nevada. Also included are digital photographs of Sternberg in 2015 wearing his Caesars Palace dealer's uniform.

Barbara Cloud Personal Papers

Abstract

The Barbara Cloud Personal Papers date from approximately 1880 to 2004 and consist of Cloud's personal research into her family history, as well as her early work as a graduate student at the University of Washington. The collection contains Cloud's thesis manuscript, published doctoral dissertation, and an award given to Cloud by Washington State Historical Society. Materials also include reproductions of family photographs, research files, copies of J. A. Slover's autobiography later published by Cloud and her mother, and Slover's original handwritten autobiography from 1907.

Thomas L. Morgan Real Estate Development Records

Abstract

The Thomas L. Morgan Real Estate Development Records (1971-1997) relate to commercial and residential real estate development, primarily in Los Angeles, California and Las Vegas and Henderson, Nevada. Materials consist of Hughes Development/Summa Corporation projects including the Hughes Center and Playa Vista in Los Angeles, California, and Summerlin and the Hughes Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. There are also extensive records related to the financing and development of Green Valley Ranch and Lake Las Vegas, projects Morgan helped develop through his private company, Thomas Morgan & Associates. Also represented are a number of casino-related projects for the Sands, the Frontier, the Landmark, and the Westgate hotel-casinos. Additional materials include general business records, handwritten notes and memoranda, and correspondence; Summa financial papers and forecasts; books on finance and a 1982 Desert Inn Master Plan architectural portfolio.

Jarbidge, Nevada Community Archives Collection

Abstract

The Jarbidge, Nevada Community Archives Collection contains scanned images from seven archival collections and document the community of Jarbidge, Nevada from approximately 1910 to 2006. The materials were collected from various families living in Jarbidge in 2006 as part of a project led by Carrie Townley Porter. The images depict early Jarbidge structures, surrounding landscape, the Elkoro Mine, and residents of the area. Also included are images of certificates, correspondence, and newspaper articles relating to the families' histories. Also included in the collection are written summaries of ten oral history interviews of Jarbidge residents conducted in 2006. This collection contains digital surrogates only; the owners and Jarbidge Community Archives retain the originals.

Abstract

UNLV University Libraries Photographs of the Response to the 1 October Shooting in Las Vegas, Nevada (2017-2019) are comprised of digital images captured to document the aftermath of the mass shooting at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas, Nevada. Following the October 1, 2017 killing of 58 people at the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival on the Las Vegas Strip, the Las Vegas community responded in a variety of ways. This collection of photographs document the impromptu memorial created at the "Welcome to Las Vegas" sign, the funeral of Officer Charleston Hartfield, and different ways the community and organizations have remembered the tragedy since 2017. The collection also documents the Las Vegas Community Healing Garden at 1015 S. Casino Center Boulevard, envisioned by activists and built by volunteers, to honor the victims and give family members and the community a place to gather to remember.
