Abstract

The Dale Scheideman Architectural Records (1955-1956) contain student work created by architect Elton Dale Scheideman during his time at the University of Kansas School of Architecture. These drawings, mounted on mat boards, were submitted for architectural classes and student design competitions.

Desert Inn implosion: video

Description

Local news segments report on the Desert Inn implosion. Ben Correa reports from the parking lot area after the implosion, showing 18,000 tons of debris. The Stardust Hotel is clearly seen behind the reporter. Video of the implosion is shown, and people are interviewed as they wait for and watch the implosion at 2:00am. Steve Crupi reports from the Frontier Hotel property where they had a different but similar view of the implosion. Both reporters say that Steve Wynn's latest project construction will begin on the site shortly. Second segment also reports on the implosion, but also goes into detail about the history of the Desert Inn with old news footage, audio, and black-and-white stills from when the casino was relatively new. Tracy, Spencer, 1900-1967

American film star and the first actor to win two consecutive Academy Awards for best actor, Spencer Bonaventure Tracy was born in Milwaukee, Wisonsin on April 5, 1900 to Caroline Brown and John Edward Tracy. Tracy joined the United States Navy in 1918. Upon his discharge, he enrolled at Ripon Colle as a premed student. While attending Ripon, Tracy auditioned for and eared a part in a play, and quickly discovered his true calling, acting. He moved to New York, New York in 1922 in order to enroll at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts.
