Abstract

The Dale Scheideman Architectural Records (1955-1956) contain student work created by architect Elton Dale Scheideman during his time at the University of Kansas School of Architecture. These drawings, mounted on mat boards, were submitted for architectural classes and student design competitions.

Scope and Contents Note

The Dale Scheideman Architectural Records (1955-1956) contain student work created by architect Elton Dale Scheidman during his time at the University of Kansas School of Architecture. These drawings, mounted on mat boards, were submitted for architectural classes and student design competitions. Project types include residential structures, commercial buildings, public facilities, churches, and designs for a new building for the Kansas School of Architecture.

Biographical / Historical Note

Elton Dale Scheideman was born on April 19, 1933 in Ellis, Kansas. He earned a bachelor of science degree in architecture from the University of Kansas, during which he entered a number of student competitions. In 1958, Scheideman entered the United States Air Force and retired in 1988 as a colonel. He later worked for a private architectural firm in St. Louis, Missouri, but moved to Clark County, Nevada in January 1991 to work as an architect and the Director of New School and Facility Planning for the Clark County School District. During his time in Las Vegas, Nevada, Scheideman pushed for school designs to facilitate better learning through architectural design, which included strategies such as providing classrooms with more sunlight.

Scheideman died on February 8, 2006 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
