Carol C. Harter Professional Papers

Abstract

The Carol C. Harter Professional Papers (1940-2023) consist of material documenting Harter's scholarly and administrative career. The collection includes letters, publications and reports, speeches, and photographs from Harter's time as the 11th and first female president of State University of New York (SUNY) Geneseo and as the 7th president of University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). As of 2024, Harter was UNLV's longest-serving and also its first female president.

Las Vegas Fiber Arts Guild Records

Abstract

The Las Vegas Fiber Arts Guild Records (approximately 1967-2023) are comprised of materials documenting the activities of the Fiber Arts Guild since the late 1960s. Materials include the guild's newsletter dating back to 1969, bylaws, membership information, photographs of events, and programs organized by the guild, such as "Dye in the Mountains." Also included in the records are evaluations of weave samples along with dye recipes and fabric samples.

Felix Lenox Photograph Collection

Abstract

The Felix Lenox Photograph Collection (approximately 1910-2000) contains original photographic slides, prints, and contact sheets collected by Lenox in support of his popular "Nevada Armored Transport Inc. (1946-1984)" Facebook page. The collection also includes Lenox's own research on Las Vegas history and armored trucks.

The Robert Scott Hooper Photographs (approximately 1960-2019) consist of photographic negatives, positives, prints, Polaroids, 16mm films, videos, business records, correspondence, drawings, and ephemera. The collection was created by prolific photographer Robert Scott Hooper and his longtime business partner and wife, Theresa Holmes. The couple's life and business was based in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Amy Ayoub oral history interviews

Abstract

Oral history interview with Amy Ayoub conducted by Claytee D. White on September 18, 2023 and May 30, 2024 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. Ayoub describes growing up in Cuba and Las Vegas, Nevada, and attending a high school in Caliente for troubled teenaged girls. When Ayoub took charge of her life in the late 1970s, she got a position at the Holiday Casino working for Claudine Williams. She recalls watching Williams work, getting to know everyone in Nevada's leadership positions, and later volunteering for numerous political campaigns.

Patty and Harry Todd oral history interview

Abstract

Oral history interview with Patty and Harry Todd conducted by Claytee D. White on May 28, 2024 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. In this interview, Patty Todd describes her childhood on the Westside of Las Vegas, and remembers a friendly community. She attended the Westside School and graduated from Rancho High School. Patty met her husband, Harry, at a Military Appreciation Ball on October 15, 1966. Harry Todd grew up in Pennsylvania and moved to Las Vegas, Nevada when he joined the Air Force.

Oral history interviews with Dennis McBride conducted by Claytee D. White and Stefani Evans on various dates in March, April, and May 2023 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. McBride goes into detail in this 4-session interview and covers a wide variety of topics, including: the history of Boulder City, working at various cultural institutions in Las Vegas, the evolution of the LGBTQ+ community in Las Vegas, researching his own history and publishing a book, and local advocacy groups. The UNLV Remembers: an Oral History of the 6 December 2023 Shooting interviews (2024-2025) contain all oral history interviews conducted by UNLV University Libraries Oral History Research Center. This project aims to enhance the historical record about the events of December 6, 2023 shooting with first-hand accounts of the tragedy, campus and community response, and recovery efforts. Interviews are with students, staff, faculty, and others.

This project centers on documenting the history of sports in Las Vegas, including interviews discussing the earliest teams to the most recent champions.
