Abstract

Oral history interview with George Bogdanovich conducted by Gretchen Schroeder on September 08, 2009 for the History of Blue Diamond Village in Nevada Oral History Project. In this interview, Bogdanovich discusses his parents immigrating from Europe to the United States and how they met. He describes the mining process for gypsum in Blue Diamond, Nevada, including transporting the mineral. Bogdanovich recalls the living conditions in Blue Diamond and how residents got their water and electricity.

Evan Blythin oral history interview

Abstract

Oral history interview with Evan Blythin conducted by Patricia van Betten on September 26, 2006 for the History of Blue Diamond Village in Nevada Oral History Project. Blythin opens his interview by discussing his early life on an Arizona ranch and his decision as a young adult to pursue higher education, which led to his PhD in philosophy and communications. He then talks about his move to Nevada in the late 1960s to teach communications at Nevada Southern University, now the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and his work to develop the communications department at the university.

Oral history interview with George Bogdanovich, Angie Bogdanovich DeLong, Sophie Bogdanovich Romans, and Nina Bogdanovich Wolters conducted by Shirley Leavitt on December 01, 2003 for the History of Blue Diamond Village in Nevada Oral History Project. In this interview, the Bogdanovich siblings talk about their family's move from California to Arden, Nevada in 1923, and subsequent move to a company mining camp at the Blue Diamond Mine in 1924. They describe living in a tent-house built by their father and walking several miles to a one-room schoolhouse each day.

Virgil Barler oral history interview

Oral history interview with Virgil Barler conducted by Shirley Leavitt on November 19, 2003 for the History of Blue Diamond Village in Nevada Oral History Project. In this interview, Barler discusses moving to Nevada to work at the Blue Diamond mine and moving from a house to a trailer in the Blue Diamond Village. He shares personal experiences and recollections about his various jobs at the mine, including working in the board factory, as a bulldozer operator, an oiler, and in the shop.

Oral history interview with William H. "Bob" Bailey conducted by A. D. Hopkins on February 17, 1999 for the Las Vegas Review-Journal First 100 Oral History Project. In the interview, Bailey discusses his birth in Detroit, Michigan and his early life and education in Cleveland, Ohio. Bailey moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1955. He describes racial segregation in the neighborhoods he lived in, and in Las Vegas in general. He also talks about entertainers and business associates he worked with at the Moulin Rouge in Las Vegas.

Oral history interview with Selma Bartlett conducted by Claytee D. White on September 18, 2008 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. In this interview, Bartlett discusses arriving to Henderson, Nevada in 1954 and recalls the homes in that area. She shares her experience in banking and her employment with First National Bank of Nevada. Lastly, Bartlett discusses the housing crisis of 1987 and describes the housing industry during that time.
