Sue Ann Porter oral history interview

Abstract

Oral history interview with Sue Ann Porter conducted by Suzanne Becker on December 29, 2008 for the Voices of the Historic John S. Park Neighborhood Oral History Project. In this interview, Porter discusses her early life and growing up with her three siblings and parents. She mentions that she shares the house she lives in with her mother Ina Porter, in the John S. Park Neighborhood of Las Vegas, Nevada. Porter continues to explain the background of the John S. Park Neighborhood, including how she met new groups of people while attending church.

Dale Kimball oral history interview

Abstract

Oral history interview with Dale Kimball conducted by Dennis McBride on May 16, 1999 and January 1, 2001 for the Las Vegas Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Archives Oral History Project. In this interview, Kimball discusses their personal impressions of and historical information about the people who donated to the Nevada Coalition for the Protection of Marriage, an organization which opposed same sex marriage. The interview consists entirely of Kimball reading through a list of donors to the Coalition and providing personal anecdotes on each individual.

Abstract

Oral history interviews with Bob Stoldal conducted by Claytee D. White on May 22, 2014, May 23, 2014, and March 3, 2016 for African Americans in Las Vegas: a Collaborative Oral History Project. In these interviews, Stoldal discusses his upbringing in California before moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1957. He talks about pursuing a career in journalism including working at Channel 3 and Channel 8, his interest in history, and involvement with cultural organizations including the Nevada State Museum, the MOB Museum, and Las Vegas Centennial Commission.

Barbara Atkinson oral history interview

Abstract

Oral history interview with Barbara Atkinson conducted by Claytee D. White on August 5, 2019 for the UNLV School of Medicine Oral History Project. Atkinson begins by talking about her family and early life. She recounts her experience in medical school, women in medicine, and sexism and discrimination in medical schools. She brings up her mentors and what she had learned from each of them. She explains her pathology specialization, her research, and publications she has written. After, Atkinson talks about her occupation history and her retirement.

Rodrigo Vazquez oral history interview

Abstract

Oral history interview with Rodrigo Vazquez conducted by Nathalie Martinez and Barbara Tabach on May 24, 2021 for the Latinx Voices of Southern Nevada Oral History Project.

Rodrigo was raised in a mixed status Mexican family. He was born in Mexico and immigrated to the United States at the age of three, later becoming a citizen when he was in the 8th grade. Rodrigo is currently a graduate student worker for the Latinx Voices Oral History Project and reflects on what he has learned. He also discusses what the past year of the Coronavirus pandemic has been like for him.

Robin and Danny Greenspun oral history interview

Abstract

Oral history interview with Robin and Danny Greenspun conducted by Michael Geeser on June 28, 1995 for the I Remember When: Recollections from Las Vegas Jewish Leaders oral history project. The Greenspuns discuss their different childhood experiences growing up Jewish in Las Vegas, Nevada. Robin and Danny each discuss their family histories briefly. They also discuss their philanthropy, specifically the CineVegas film festival. Finally, they discuss how they feel the Jewish community in Las Vegas is at the time of the interview, and how the next generation will grow and change the city.

Richard "Dick" Ham Photograph Collection

Abstract

The Richard "Dick" Ham Photograph Collection (1910-2005) contains photographs of Boulder City, Nevada resident Richard "Dick" Ham, his family, friends, and romantic partners. Images include photographs of Las Vegas High School and the University of California, Berkeley where Ham attended high school and college. The collection includes both formal portraits as well as candid snapshots of Ham and the people who were part of his life.

Tony Moreo oral history interview

Abstract

Oral history interview with Tony Moreo conducted by Claytee D. White on September 13, 2007 for the UNLV @ 50 Oral History Project. In this interview, Moreo compares growing up in New York to his life in Las Vegas, Nevada. He explains how he did not perform as well as other students back when he was in school, but then describes a major turning point in his life was when he studied culinary arts in college. In the rest of the interview, Moreo talks about moving to Las Vegas to pursue a career in culinary arts.
