Abstract

Oral history interview with Cindy Baca conducted by Barbara Tabach on May 22, 2019 for the Remembering 1 October Oral History Project.

Cindy Baca, born and raised in Las Vegas, talks about her family and occupation as a librarian at Escobedo Middle School. Cindy's twin daughters were present and injured during the Route 91 Festival and October 1 shooting. She describes their experiences and the Random Acts of Kindness project she piloted at her school after the incident.

Jacqueline Barker oral history interview

Abstract

Oral history interview with Jacqueline Barker conducted by Claytee D. White on February 14, 2013 for the African Americans in Las Vegas: a Collaborative Oral History Project. In this interview, Barker discusses her upbringing in Las Vegas, Nevada and growing up in the Westside. She talks about the importance of the church in the Westside and the significance of education in her family. Barker remembers her father’s involvement with school integration in Las Vegas, the sixth grade centers, and the racism she experienced while attending the University of Nevada, Reno during the 1970s.

Oral history interview with Marge Jacques conducted by Dennis McBride on November 19, 1998 for the Las Vegas Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Archives Oral History Project. In this interview, Jacques discusses her friendship with the former Governor of Nevada Grant Sawyer. She talks about LGBTQ supporting policies that Sawyer contributed in, and his involvement with the progress of LGBTQ civil rights in Nevada. Lastly, Jacques describes Grant's social obligations during his time in office.

In this interview, Lotea discusses her upbringing in Fordyce, Arkansas and moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1953. She remembers the Westside during the late 1950s and discusses businesses in that area. Maurice talks about growing up in the Westside, the increase of organized crime, and attending Rancho High School.

Oral history interview with Madeleine and Will Bradley conducted by Claytee D. White on October 11, 2021 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project.

Madeleine Bradley and her son Will discuss their familial ties to Henry Benjamin Cave, a Confederate soldier, by his widow Daisy Cave. Madeleine and Will talk about the Civil War, life in South Carolina compared to Nevada, and Will's occupation as a pilot. Will also shares his experiences with the military and serving during Operation Desert Storm.

Oral history interview with Gerardo Topacio, Philomena Topacio, and Teresa Prezgay conducted by Claytee D. White on April 13, 2018 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. In this interview, Gerardo discusses his early life in Manila, Philippines. He remembers the attacks in Pearl Harbor on December 07, 1941, the Japanese and Philippines conflict, and immigrating to the United States. Gerardo talks about his employment with Edgerton, Germeshausen, and Grier, Inc. (EG&G) and working at the Nevada Test Site.

Abstract

Oral history interview with Terry Cavaretta St. Jules and Rejean St. Jules conducted by Claytee D. White on May 02, 2018 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. In this interview, Terry discusses her upbringing and early interest in trapeze performance. She remembers performing with her siblings, touring with her family, and arriving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1968. Terry talks about performing at the Circus Circus Hotel and Casino and Las Vegas production shows at the time. Later, Rejean recalls arriving to Las Vegas in 1982 as an acrobat and juggler.
