Abstract

The Thomas R. Schiff Panoramic Photographs (2001-2009) are comprised of physical and digital panoramic photographs of hotel casinos and other locations around Las Vegas, Nevada used in his book, Vegas 360°. The collection includes photographs of local businesses, casinos around downtown Las Vegas, and the Las Vegas Strip including the Aladdin Hotel and Casino, Bally's Las Vegas, Caesars Palace, Fremont Street, and New York-New York Hotel & Casino. Photographs are available as both digital files and physical prints.

Biographical / Historical Note

Thomas R. Schiff studied photography at Ohio University where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1970. He began experimenting with panoramic photography in the 1980s and in the mid-1990s he started using a Hulcherama 360-degree panoramic camera to take photographs of building exteriors and interiors. Schiff has published collections of his panoramic photography projects in a number of books including Vegas 360° (2008), Panoramic Ohio (2003), Panoramic Parks of Cincinnati (2005), and The Library Book (2017).

In addition to photography, Schiff has worked in the insurance business in Cincinnati, Ohio since graduating from Ohio University. As of 2020 he is chairman and CEO of John J. & Thomas R. Schiff & Co., Inc. as well as director of Cincinnati Financial Corporation.

In 2019, Tammi Kim minimally processed the collection during accessioning. Digital files were transferred from an external hard drive and description was created in ArchivesSpace. In 2022, Sarah Jones added an item-level inventory to the finding aid.
