Records (1994-1999) are comprised of planning documents, newspaper clippings, external communication, and memoranda documenting the establishment and operations of the Nevada Women's Archives at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. The records primarily document collection materials from the first exhibit created using the Nevada Women's Archive.

Scope and Contents Note

Records are comprised of planning documents, newspaper clippings, communication, and memoranda documenting the establishment and operations of the Nevada Women's Archives at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) from 1994 to 1999. The records primarily document the first exhibit curated using the Nevada Women's Archives materials; an exhibit about Jeanne Russell Janish, a botanical illustrator. The records document the activities undertaken by the Nevada Women's Archives to collect, catalogue, protect, preserve, and make accessible the records and papers of Nevada women. The records were primarily maintained by Elizabeth (Liz) Warren, the archivist for the UNLV Nevada Women's Archives.

Biographical / Historical Note

The Nevada Women’s Archives was started at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) Special Collections in 1992 in an effort to collect primary source materials related to Nevada women. The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) joined UNR in September of 1994 to make the Nevada Women’s Archives a statewide project. The goal of the Nevada Women’s Archives is to collect, catalog, preserve, and make accessible the records and papers of Nevada women and women’s organizations.

Materials were transfered to the University Archives by the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Special Collections and Archives; accession number 2017-054.

These records are unprocessed. A rough inventory of the accession was created by Maggie Bukowski in 2017. To prepare inventory, the described materials were reviewed to create a contents list, estimate dates, and identify material types. No other work has been performed on the materials.
