Mary Elizabeth von Till was born on April 16, 1934 in Brooklyn, New York. She is the fifth child of eight in her family. Her family moved around much of the Northeast as a child before settling back in Brooklyn at age twelve. She graduated high school in 1947 and went on to Barnard College, where she graduated in 1955. From there, Elizabeth moved on to graduate school at Northwestern University, where she met her husband, Claude Warren. The two married in December 1955. Elizabeth went on to earn her Master's in History from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) in 1974, and then her Ph.D. from Washington State University in 2001 with her dissertation focusing on the Las Vegas Valley.
Elizabeth was an archivist for the Women's Archives in the Special Collections and Archives department of UNLV's Lied Library. She is most known for her work in anthropological and historical research of the Las Vegas Valley. She has had a hand in creating the Las Vegas Springs Preserve, as well as the Neon Museum. Her research has improved exhibits around much of Las Vegas' cultural and historical landmarks, such as Goodsprings, Valley of Fire State Park, The Old Spanish Trail Park, and many more.
Elizabeth and Claude had four children together, Claude Jr., Susan, Louis, and Jonathan.
