Description

On February 8, 1977, Mark Lucas interviewed Edmund “Ed” Fleming (born 1915 in Virginia, Minnesota) about his experience in Southern Nevada. Fleming first talks about his moves to and from Nevada before describing the mining practices within the small towns in Southern Nevada. He also talks about his experience as a teacher in Pahrump and Goodsprings and his eventual move to Las Vegas, where he continued in the educational field. Fleming also talks about religion, transportation, funding for education, inflation, and cultural arts as they all relate to Las Vegas.

Gunderson, Barry L., 1951-

Barry L. Gunderson was the principal at Las Vegas High School and Rancho High School in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was born December 18, 1951 in California and moved to central Nevada in 1957 to farm with his parents. Gunderson attended the University of Arizona in Tuscon, Arizona, and later worked in various schools in the Clark County School District as a teacher, administrative assistant, dean, and assistant principal

Giunchigliani, Chris, 1954-

Chris Guinchigliani was born November 27, 1954 in Chicago, Illinois. In 1978, she moved to Las Vegas, Nevada and began teaching at the Clark County School District. She involved herself first in the teachers’ union; eventually serving as president of the Nevada State Education Association from 1987 to 1991. Guinchigliani and her Husband Gary Gray are longtime residents of the John S. Park Neighborhood and she was among those who originated the idea of getting a historical designation for the community.

Ober, Dee, 1932-2008

Bio taken from obituary on Las Vegas Review Journal: "D'VORRE OBER D'Vorre (Dee) Ober, 76, of Las Vegas, passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2008. Dee was preceded in death by Harold Ober, her beloved husband of 55 years; and her younger sister, Myrna Supowitz-Walzer. She is survived by her five children, Ron (Gail), Ed (Gail), Jami (Scott), Scott (Barb), and David (Jennifer); 14 grandchildren; a great-grandson; and younger siblings, Lennie (Lennie), and Lynda (David). D'Vorre was born Feb. 17, 1932, in Pittsburgh. Dee had a very wonderful and fulfilling life.

Oral history interview with Ron Textor conducted by Claytee D. White on July 24, 2007 for the All That Jazz Oral History Project. In this interview Ron Textor describes moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1981, playing with the Norm Geller orchestra at the Sands, and playing with the Al Ramsey Orchestra at Caesars Palace. He also discusses being contracted with the Las Vegas Philharmonic Orchestra and teaching mathematics at Clark High School for twenty years.

Oral history interview with Judy Smith conducted by Suzanne Becker on November 22, 2008 for the Voices of the Historic John S. Park Neighborhood Oral History Project. Smith discusses moving from Barstow, California, to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1958. She also discusses working as the assistant society editor for the Las Vegas Sun, graduating from the University of Nevada Reno, and moving back to Las Vegas with her husband and children to live in the John S. Park Neighborhood in 1967.
