Bio taken from obituary on Las Vegas Review Journal: "D'VORRE OBER D'Vorre (Dee) Ober, 76, of Las Vegas, passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2008. Dee was preceded in death by Harold Ober, her beloved husband of 55 years; and her younger sister, Myrna Supowitz-Walzer. She is survived by her five children, Ron (Gail), Ed (Gail), Jami (Scott), Scott (Barb), and David (Jennifer); 14 grandchildren; a great-grandson; and younger siblings, Lennie (Lennie), and Lynda (David). D'Vorre was born Feb. 17, 1932, in Pittsburgh. Dee had a very wonderful and fulfilling life. She had three special loves in her life - family, the arts and education. She attended Pennsylvania College for Women (Chathem), however she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree and a Masters Degree in special education at the University of Arizona. Dee and Hal raised their five kids in Tucson, Ariz., where she was a teacher for the visually impaired at the Arizona State School for the Deaf and Blind. They then moved to Las Vegas in 1977. Dee established the first program for the visually impaired through the Clark County School District. She not only began the program but was the lead teacher in providing programs for the visually impaired and their families. Dee served on many community boards, including the Jewish Community Center, Jewish Federation of Las Vegas, University Medical Center, Southern Nevada Association for the Handicapped and the Jewish National Fund. Dee and her husband, Hal, were given their greatest honor when the D'Vorre and Hal Ober Elementary School was dedicated in June 2001. Their son, Scott, has served as its principal since the school opened and two of their grandchildren have attended the school. Dee was an accomplished painter and sculptor. Much of her creative energy resulted in beautiful bronzes, including the life-size schoolgirl that graces the front of Ober Elementary School."
