Abstract

Oral history interview with Elbert B. Edwards conducted by Dennis McBride on November 12, 1986 for the Boulder City Library Oral History Project. A Nevada native, Edwards recounts the development of the school system in Nevada, with specific details on Las Vegas and Boulder City. He discusses state education law, early school districts, difficulties with establishing primary and secondary education in Boulder City while it was a federal reservation and the number and quality of students who were bussed from Boulder City to Las Vegas to attend high school. He continues describing the effects of The Six Companies departure from Boulder City after Hoover Dam was completed and the efforts to establish a permanent school district in that community after 1937 and through the war years that followed.

The Las Vegas Township Inspector of Elections Tally Books date to 1911 and contain the tally books for the June 1, 1911 Las Vegas, Nevada Township local election, a list of all the eligible voters for the year, as well as the outcome of the elections. Edward W. Griffith and Ernest L. Fenner were the appointed election inspectors.

Abstract

Oral history interview with James Dunbar, Benny Figgins, and Pete George conducted by David G. Schwartz on July 19, 2016 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. The three interviewees describe their experiences working for Caesars Palace Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada since its grand opening on August 06, 1966. George begins the interview by recalling his work in various positions including showroom custodian, showroom cocktail server, and banquet server. Figgins then describes his initial positions as a casino porter, convention porter, dishwasher, restaurant busser, and in 1972, his primary occupation as a dealer for table games. Dunbar explains working as a valet at the Flamingo Hotel and Casino while serving Caesars Palace executives during and after Caesars Palace's construction. The three interviewees then recall stories about notable casino executives and celebrities.
