From the Syphus-Bunker Papers (MS-00169). The folder contains an original handwritten letter, a typed transcription of the same letter, and a copy of original letter attached. Laura's last name "Lyman" is not included in letter or title, but there is correspondence with previous letter and location of Parowan, Utah.

Abstract

The Kathy Eastland Papers (1972-2003) document Kathy Eastland's experiences working in Nevada brothels. Materials include ephemera and memorabilia collected by Eastland from various brothels in Nevada such as the Mustang Ranch, the Moonlite BunnyRanch, and Old Bridge Ranch. Included in the collection are brothel menus and photographs of Eastland and other sex workers socializing in the brothels. The collection also contains notes, research, and drafts of Eastland's manuscript Hell on Heels which describe her experience working in the brothel industry. Also included are prototypes of a game created by Eastland called "Brothelopoly" and some campaign materials about Jessi Winchester, a former brothel worker who ran for public office in Nevada. There is a small amount of materials about Joe Conforte, former owner of the Mustang Ranch, and some personal effects of Eastland including a motorcycle jacket and storage trunk.

Abstract

The UNLV University Libraries Collection of Posters is comprised of posters featuring Southern Nevada with a focus on Las Vegas, Nevada, collected by the University Libraries Special Collections and Archives. The material dates between 1891 and 2002, with the bulk of the material dating between 1940 and 2002. The collection includes posters of movies filmed in Las Vegas, casino marketing and advertisement posters, newspaper clippings, political rallies and campaign advertisement posters, and event promotions.

Alpha Kappa Alpha, Incorporated (AKA), is one of the oldest Black sororities in the United States, and was

founded on January 15, 1908 at Howard University in Washington, D.C. AKA is an international service

organization that comprises nearly 300,000 members in over 1,000 graduate and undergraduate chapters

worldwide.

Theta Theta Omega originally started in 1962 when six members of AKA sought to create a graduate

chapter in Las Vegas, Nevada. AKA recruited members by posting notices throughout the Clark County

Bailey, William Henry, 1927-2014

Bob Bailey

William H. "Bob" Bailey was born in 1927 and came to Las Vegas in 1955. First employed as an assistant producer and master of ceremonies in the first interracial hotel in Nevada, the Moulin Rouge, he describes the impact that hotel had on black entertainers during its brief existence. Bailey says the hotel brought life to the Westside where, in 1955, there were only a few telephones and the streets were largely unpaved.

Meghan Boyle interviews her father John Boyle (born 1924 in Risen, Arkansas), who at the time was Chief Pilot of Operations for Republic Airlines. The two discuss changes in air travel over the years and John’s profession as a pilot. They also discuss improvements in Las Vegas roads over the years, the rise in crime rates, and the impacts on changes in the economy.
