Alderman, Israel "Icepick Willie"

Israel "Icepick Willie" Alderman was a Las Vegas, Nevada casino investor and manager with ties to organized crime. Along with his associates Meyer Lansky, Bugsy Siegel, Moe Sedway, David Berman, and Gus Greenbaum, he was involved in the El Cortez, the Riviera, the Flamingo, and the Las Vegas Club. Prior to living in Las Vegas, he was mob enforcer in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he was given his nickname based on his perfection of the icepick method of murder.

Alterwitz, Daryl S., 1959-

Daryl Alterwitz (1959- ) is a Las Vegas, Nevada attorney. When he was thirteen years old his family moved from Gary, Indiana to Las Vegas and purchased Walker Furniture. Alterwitz graduated from Valley High School and attended the University of California Santa Cruz. He earned his law degree from Santa Clara University and a degree in taxation from New York University School of Law. After his father Oscar Alterwitz passed away in 1990, Daryl moved back to Las Vegas to take on more responsibility in the family business, Walker Furniture.

Chenin, Irene, 1926-2004

Irene N. Chenin haS lived in Las Vegas since July 1951. She came to join her husband, Dr. Joseph Chenin, who was stationed at Nellis Air Force Base as a dentist during the Korean War. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on Sept. 3,1926. Irene was very active and volunteered her time, energy and service to the state of Nevada and the cities of Las Vegas and Henderson. She was past president of the Clark County Dental Auxiliary Society and also appointed to the city of Las Vegas Beautilication committee.

Congregation P’nai Tikvah

Congregation P’nai Tikvah, formerly known as Valley Outreach Synagogue, is the only congregation in Nevada affiliated with the Reconstruction and Renewal movements of Judaism. Located in Las Vegas, Valley Outreach Synagogue was founded by Rabbi Richard Schachet in 1993. In 2005 he retired and Rabbi Yocheved Mintz became spiritual leader of the congregation. Reconstructionism views Judaism not just as a religion, but as an entire culture, which evolves over time and continues to be shaped by tradition.

Sister Rosemary Lynch was a Catholic nun, teacher, and social activist who advocated for world peace, disarmament, and an end to the testing and use of nuclear weapons.] Born March 18, 1917 in Phoenix, Arizona, Sister Rosemary Lynch attended St. Mary's parish schools as a child. She later became a member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Penance and Christian Charity community in 1932, and took her vows as a Franciscan Sister in 1934.
