Abstract

Oral history interview with Donna George conducted by Barbara Tabach on May 14, 2012 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. In this interview, George discusses growing up in Las Vegas and the changes in the city. She then talks about her husband, David George, and his employment at the Nevada Test Site. George recalls David’s transportation to and from the test site, how the two would communicate when David was working, and concerns about exposure to radiation. Lastly, she discusses the change from aboveground testing to underground testing.

Oral history interview with Charles West conducted by Perry Kaufman on April 19, 1974 for the Ralph Roske Oral History Project on Early Las Vegas. West discusses the African American community in Las Vegas, Nevada and what the living conditions were for them. West then explains how the Nevada Voters League changed the way politics played out after more African Americans went out to vote. He also discusses his work as the first African American Doctor in Las Vegas.

Abstract

The collection is comprised of shooting logs and raw video footage created for the documentary, Stripped and Teased: Tales from Las Vegas Women (1998). The collection includes video interviews and transcripts from approximately 1995 to 1998 of women working in Las Vegas, Nevada from a variety of backgrounds. Subjects include individuals such as Mayor Jan Jones, Representative Shelley Berkley, Claudine Williams, Thalia Dondero, Joyce Marshall, Hattie Canty, Sister Rosemary, Fluff LeCoque, and others. The collection includes footage of Las Vegas events and street scenes from a variety of periods.

Nevada Biltmore Hotel Collection

Abstract

The collection dates from 1942 to 1986 and contains a scrapbook and other materials related to the Nevada Biltmore built by Robert Brooks in Las Vegas, Nevada. The scrapbook includes photographs of the resort and newspaper clippings. It also contains some materials from the Seven Seas restaurant owned by Brooks in Hollywood, California. The collection includes newspaper clippings related to Las Vegas gaming and politics, some photographs of Bob Brooks and his wife Jewel at social events in Las Vegas, and a Biltmore menu and stationary.
