Abstract

Oral history interview with Susan and Irwin Molasky conducted by Michael Geeser on May 15, 2006 for the I Remember When: Recollections from Las Vegas Jewish Leaders Oral History Project. They talk about the founding of the Nathan Adelson Hospice and about the Jewish community in Las Vegas, Nevada. Irwin talks about building the first high-rise condominium and the first high-rise office building in Las Vegas, about building Sunrise Hospital and Boulevard Mall, about the future of Las Vegas, light rail in the city, and the Las Vegas downtown and its future. They also discuss the water supply in southern Nevada and the possibility of a high-speed railroad from Los Angeles to Las Vegas.

Description

Circa 1929 in front of the Majestic Theatre. The address is 131 Fremont Street. This is located on the south side of the street, just west of Second Street. In addition to the Majestic Theatre billboards advertising "Stairs of Sand," which was released in the USA June 8, 1929 and "International News today First Run," offices for the U. S. Post Office and Carroll Gift Toggery are visible on the first floor windows. An advertisement for Real-Estate Insurance Surety Bonds is visible by the "Stars of Sand" billboard. Offices for Dr. C. E. Bulette, M. D. (Rooms 6 & 7), L. S. Thompson, Lawyer, and Dr. Conger are visible on the second floor windows. There is a metal mailbox visible in the foreground, and a man dressed in a suit is visible in the window for Dr. Bulette. The Overland Park Hotel opened in 1905, becoming the Las Vegas Club in 1931. Las Vegas' first indoor moving picture was shown there in 1911. The Majestic Theatre was the town's only indoor movie theater after the fire at the Overland Park Hotel in 1911.

Hampton, Bob, 1920-1994

Real estate developer and entrepreneur William Robert "Bob" Hampton was the mayor of Henderson,

Nevada from 1965 to 1969. He also served as Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Southern Nevada

Regional Housing Authority. He also was part owner of Taylor Steel Company, which participated in

several major construction projects in Southern Nevada, including the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
