Wiener, Louis, Jr., 1915-1996

Louis Wiener, Jr. was born on March 28, 1915 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1931 and graduated from Las Vegas High School in 1932. He attended the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) and the University of California (UC) Berkeley School of Law. When Wiener was admitted to the Clark County Bar Association, there were only 16 other attorneys in Las Vegas.

Greenspun, Danny, 1954-

Daniel "Danny" A. Greenspun is the founder of Vegas.Com, a Las Vegas, Nevada tourism website. The son of Hank and Barbara Greenspun, Danny Greenspun was involved with the family's company, Greenspun Media Group (GMG), until 2014 when his brother Brian Greenspun took full ownership. Danny Greenspun previously served as chairman of GMG, vice chairman of the Greenspun Corporation, and vice president of the Las Vegas Sun, the newspaper established by his parents.

Casey, Steven S., 1948-

Steve Casey is the oldest of three children born to Peggy and Walt Casey. Born in Portland, Oregon, Steve arrived in Las Vegas in 1951 as a three-year-old via Glendora, California. His childhood memories are of small-town Las Vegas. He grew up near Tropicana Avenue and Eastern Avenue in a house his parents built by hand. The Casey family lived beyond municipal roads, so Steve worked his newspaper route by horse and occasionally rode his horse to Paradise Elementary School.

Blanchard, Lucius, 1942-

Lucius Blanchard grew up in Ahoskie, North Carolina, and attended the University of North Carolina Medical School at Chapel Hill. After acquiring his medical degree, he joined the military for two years and upon leaving became chief resident for the University of Louisville. While there, he took dermatology training and cancer surgery training in the University of Wisconsin allowing him to specialize in skin cancer surgery.

Hicks, Dee, 1946-

Dee Hicks was born in Damascus, Arkansas in 1946. She was the tenth of 13 children born to Guy and Augusta Goff. Her father was a Baptist preacher and carpenter by trade, and her mother was a housewife. Hick’s decision to become a nurse became a focal point in her life in the tenth grade. She joined the Future Nurses’ Club and geared her high school classes toward nursing. Later, Hicks went to Oklahoma Baptist University and graduated with a bachelor of science in nursing.

Kishner, Irwin, 1933-2017

Irwin Kishner was born in 1933 in Brighton Beach, New York and lived there until he was 13 years old, when the family relocated to Miami, Florida. Irwin graduated from high school and went on to earn his undergraduate degree from the University of Florida in 1954 and his law degree from the University of Miami in 1958.

Roles, Treva

Treva Roles was born March 10, 1928 to Louis and Katherine Smith, and spent her childhood in Erie, Pennsylvania and Chicago, Illinois with five other siblings. During the Great Depression, Roles’s father used his entrepreneurial skills to turn his traveling salesman profession into a family business, selling personal inventions. Eventually, he decided to sell the business, and buy a motel out west to retire. The motel ended up being the Fair Price Motel in Las Vegas, Nevada, and Roles soon moved out to help the family run it.

Smith, B. P. (Billy Paul), 1942-

Billy Paul Smith was born in 1942 and educated in segregated black schools in Shreveport, Louisiana, and Texarkana, Texas. He graduated from high school at fifteen and enrolled at Prairie View A&M University, where he trained with the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC). He earned his Bachelor’s degree in chemistry and in 1964, his Master’s degrees in chemistry and math. Smith’s math and science background steered him to the United States Army Chemical Corps, where he was quickly selected to join a new team.

Mills, Ruth Annette

Ruth Annette Mills was born December 13, 1932 and was raised in Washington, D.C.. Mills and her husband, Charles Mills, lived in Georgia, Texas, and Maryland before coming to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1968. She worked as a typist for the Office of Education at one point and did volunteer work for her church, the Cub Scouts, and the League of Women Voters (LWV). Mills also worked as a clerk-typist for the Clark County School District, and eventually became a teacher through the Teacher Corps program.
