Abstract

Oral history interview with Barbara Buckley, Kevin Buckley, Michael Buckley, Jill Buckley and Lindsay Stilwell conducted by Claytee White on January 28, 2014 for the West Charleston Neighborhoods-- An Oral History Project of Ward 6. Kevin discusses the early Pinto Palomino neighborhood, working as a teenager, black-white relations, his education, serving as one of Howard Hughes physicians, and the move to Las Vegas. Barbara talks about the difference between Flintridge, California, and Las Vegas in 1968 when the family first arrived.

Abstract

Oral history interview with Patricia Becker conducted by Claytee D. White on April 15, 2014 for the West Charleston Neighborhoods: An Oral History Project of Ward 5. In this interview Patricia Becker discusses her extensive law career serving as deputy attorney general and as the first woman selected to serve on Nevada's Gaming Control Board. She then discusses moving on to become general counsel for Hararh's Entertainment International and to becoming the senior Vice President of corporate affairs and legal adviser for Aladdin Gaming.

Oral history interviews with the Genovese Family conducted by Shirley Emerson on August 20, August 29, September 05, and September 13, 2013 for the West Charleston Neighborhoods: An Oral History Project of Ward 3. In these interviews, the Genoveses (Robert, Ann, Joseph, Patrick, and David) discuss their lives in Las Vegas, Nevada since 1963. The family discusses the growth and development of Las Vegas and Robert and Anne's home in McNeil Estates. They talk about Robert’s career as a musician, the city’s recession in 1964, and the influence of organized crime in Las Vegas.

Abstract

Oral history interview with Mike, Fred, and John Pinjuv conducted by Barbara Tabach on May 13, 2014 for the West Charleston Neighborhoods--an Oral History Project of Ward 1. Mike Pinjuv discusses his father moving to Las Vegas, Nevada with his wife and kids in 1917, owning a gas station and grocery store, and later working as a civilian on the Nellis Air Force Base. John Pinjuv recalls owning Las Vegas Sheet Metal and Fred Pinjuv talks about his career in the United States Air Force. All three brothers then discusses moving to the West Charleston area in Las Vegas as adults.

Oral history interview with Donald and Kathleen Klinkner conducted by Claytee D. White on May 07, 2014 for the West Charleston Neighborhoods--an Oral History Project of Ward 1. In this interview, Don Klinkner discusses moving to Las Vegas, Nevada, going to Las Vegas High School, being a part of the Mint Julep social club, and his career in the casino industry. Kathy discusses growing up in the hippie movement, moving to Las Vegas, becoming the first female credit manager in the entire Caesars organization, and marrying Don Klinkner.

In this interview Elton Garrett discusses the development of Boulder City, Nevada, how the city has grown, his work for the Boulder City Journal, atomic testing at the Nevada Test Site, and the founders of the University of Nevada Las Vegas.
