Abstract

Oral history interview with Paul Hejmanowski conducted by Lois M. Goodall on March 13, 2014 for West Charleston Neighborhoods-- An Oral History Project of Ward 1. Paul Hejmanowski in this interview recalls his family moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1972 and his first impressions of the city and its people. Hejmanowski then discusses his children’s activities at Lorenzi Park and traveling to an area near Caliente to cut down their Christmas tree.

Gans discusses working as an electrician and attending the Aviation Academy in Reno, Nevada and then as a flight instructor there. He also discusses working in measuring radioactivity from nuclear testing, working at the Clark County Sanitation, and at the Las Vegas, Nevada Convention and Visitors Authority as a vice president there.

Wilcock recalls working in Bal Harbour, Florida, and coming to Las Vegas, Nevada to attend the School of Hotel Management at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). Wilcock explains gaming terminology and the process of dealing and cheating the casino. He discusses the relationship between Caesars in Atlantic City and Caesars Palace in Las Vegas and between operating a gaming company in New Jersey and Nevada.

In this interview Ronald Simone discusses his upbringing in Connecticut, moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in September 1960 with his friend Joe Mack, and his career as a jazz musician working at various lounges and showrooms throughout Las Vegas. He also discusses the various famous people he performed for and the July 1989 musicians strike.

In this interview Daniel Connell discusses moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1954, marrying his wife Linda after returning from the military, and moving to the Westleigh neighborhood of Ward 1 in 1973. He also talks about his family life, the state of his neighborhood throughout the years, and being hired by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

Oral history interview with Barry W. Becker conducted by Barbara Tabach on June 04, 2014 for the West Charleston Neighborhoods--an Oral History Project of Ward 1. Becker recalls the growth of Las Vegas, Nevada and the changes made from when he initially came in the 1970s. Becker then discusses meeting numerous people in various occupations associated with land development. He also recalls watching the neighborhoods growing and spreading out through the Las Vegas Valley.
