Abstract

Oral history interviews with Floyd Jenne conducted by Dennis McBride on various dates in March, April, and October of 1996 for the Boulder City Library Oral History Project. In the interviews, Jenne discusses his birth in Ogden, Utah in 1915, his early life in Northern Nevada in 1920s, and his later life in Boulder City, Nevada working as a reclamation ranger for the Bureau of Reclamation.

Virginia James oral history interviews

Abstract

Oral history interviews with Virginia James conducted by Claytee D. White on various dates in October and November 2004, and March and July 2005 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. In the interview, James describes her experiences as a dancer with the Texas Copa Girls at the Sands Hotel and Casino, and with the Jayne Mansfield Show and Folies Bergère at the Tropicana Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. She recalls her early life in Texas, learning how to dance, and applying to be a dancer at the Sands in 1957.

James Deacon oral history interview

Abstract

Oral history interview with James Deacon conducted by Elizabeth Warren on August 28, 2008 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. In this interview, Deacon discusses his ichthyological and environmental research around the geological formation of Devils Hole in Nevada, where he studied the Devils Hole pupfish. Deacon also describes other species of fish he studied in several different bodies of water in Nevada and his experiences over the course of those studies.

Mary C. Hurtado oral history interview

Oral history interview with Mary C. Hurtado conducted by Angie DeLong and Sophie Romani on May 27, 2008 for the History of Blue Diamond Village in Nevada Oral History Project. Hurtado opens her interview by recalling her third grade year at the Arden School in Blue Diamond, Nevada. Hurtado describes her favorite teacher, Ruby Danny. She then describes other teachers at the school, her childhood in the 1920s in Blue Diamond, and community events such as gift giving during the Christmas season.

Oral history interview with Alfred C. Hurtado conducted by Shirley Leavitt on December 02, 2003 for the History of Blue Diamond Village in Nevada Oral History Project. Hurtado opens his interview by describing his childhood in Blue Diamond, Nevada including memories of his friend George Bogdanovich. He recalls playing in mining tunnels, encountering wildlife, and swimming during the summers. He then talks about the town school, how people in Las Vegas, Nevada and Blue Diamond were connected and knew each other, and the busing route for Blue Diamond children.

Oral history interview with Dorothy Haywood Hull conducted by Patricia Van Betten on August 25, 2009 for the History of Blue Diamond Village in Nevada Oral History Project. In this interview, Hull talks about her family's move to Blue Diamond, Nevada from Hughes Springs, Texas in 1940. She describes living in the village's trailer park and attending the Blue Diamond elementary school and Las Vegas High School in Las Vegas, Nevada. She recalls playing at the park and the community pool, and playing in the surrounding hills.

Therese Thomas oral history interview

Abstract

Oral history interview with Therese Thomas conducted by Dennis McBride on March 13, 1995 for the Boulder City Library Oral History Project. In the interview, Thomas discusses her early life in Thistle, Utah before moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in approximately 1931, where her father worked on the Hoover Dam (Boulder Dam) construction. Thomas then talks about her early schooling in Boulder City, Nevada, her experiences as a swing and dance band musician, Block 16 in the Clark Las Vegas Townsite, and her memories of Las Vegas hotels and casinos.
