2016 Presidential Debate Memorabilia

Abstract

The 2016 Presidential Debate Memorabilia (2016) is comprised of commemorative items created by the Commission on Presidential Debates for the presidential debate held at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). The collection includes memorabilia such as t-shirts, posters, and a photograph book commemorating the event. Also included is a campus guide to UNLV for external media and a dinner menu and program for a special dinner hosted by the UNLV Foundation.

Crockett Family Photographs

Abstract

The Crockett Family Photographs (1911-2022) consist of photographic prints, newspaper articles, and scrapbooks documenting Alamo Airport (later Harry Reid International Airport) and the Crockett family. Photographs of the interior, exterior, and airfield at Alamo Airport, including aerial views, document the early stages of what is now one of the busiest international airports in the United States. A significant portion of the collection consists of photographs of the Crockett family at their home in Las Vegas, at various events, and on family vacations.

Pahrump Valley High School Photograph Collection

Abstract

The Pahrump Valley High School Photograph Collection (approximately 1974-1976) consists of black-and-white images of students and staff in various locations in and around the Pahrump Valley High School campus in Southern Nevada. Images document sporting events, classroom activities, and campus buildings. Featured in some of the images are football and basketball teams, song leaders, teachers, coaches, and the landscape around Pahrump, including Mt. Charleston from a distance. This collection consists entirely of digital surrogates.

"Las Vegas: Snapshots of History" Photograph Collection

Abstract

The "Las Vegas: Snapshots of History" Photograph Collection is comprised of photographic prints and slides as well as digital surrogates of photographic prints and ephemera representing architecture and events in Las Vegas, Nevada from approximately 1960 to 2017. Materials were donated by members of the Las Vegas community as part of a community scanning day sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities' Common Heritage grant.

Tom Mead Photograph

Abstract

The Tom Mead Photograph consists of a black-and-white photographic print from 1928. The image depicts members present for the Presidential signing of the Boulder Canyon Project Act on December 21, 1928, including Elwood Mead, Calvin Coolidge, and Hiram W. Johnson.

Stardust Hotel and Desert Inn Hotel Photographic Negatives

Abstract

The Stardust Hotel and Desert Inn Hotel Photographic Negatives collection consists of black-and-white photographic negatives depicting the Stardust and Desert Inn hotels from approximately 1962 to 1967. The images depict annual and one-time events held at both hotels, including sporting events such as golf and tennis, fashion shows and beauty contests, weddings, and conventions for local and national associations. A significant amount of the collection documents the long running Lido de Paris show at the Stardust.

Clinton Wright Photographs

Abstract

The Clinton Wright Photographs (1964-2018) contains black-and-white photographic negatives of various sizes, dating from 1964 to 1971. The images document the Black experience in Las Vegas, Nevada during the 1960s and 1970s, and capture scenes of everyday life in the historic Black neighborhood known as the Westside, social events such as weddings and parties, and events hosted by local churches.

Ulvis Alberts Postcard Collection

Abstract

The Ulvis Alberts Postcard Collection consists of postcards created from photographs taken by Ulvis Alberts between 1968 and 1981. Images depict scenes from the World Series of Poker at Binion's Horseshoe Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, as well as images of various celebrities, actors, and professional musicians. Several of the postcards are autographed by Alberts.

John W. Steiger Photograph Collection

Abstract

The John Steiger Photograph Collection contains black-and-white photographic prints of H. E. Steiger, John Steiger's father, in and around Las Vegas, Nevada in the 1920s. Images depict H. E. Steiger and various other identified and unidentified individuals in various locations surrounding Las Vegas, including Wilson Ranch, Mount Charleston, and Boulder Canyon. Some images of the Las Vegas Grammar School include John Steiger's mother, who was an elementary school teacher in Las Vegas from 1919 to 1920.

Chester Longwell Photograph Collection

Abstract

The Chester Longwell Photograph Collection consists of 608 black-and-white photographic prints dating from approximately 1910 to 1930. The images primarily depict the Longwell family's excursions in the Southern Nevada region, primarily to Mount Charleston, Nevada. Also included are images of Southern Nevada mines and mining towns, as well as Pubelo Grande de Nevada, the Lost City. The remaining images depict geological formations and features, as well as forestry and nature scenes in Nevada and Arizona.
