Donald Welch Photograph Collection

Abstract

The Donald Welch Photograph Collection (approximately 1961-1981) is comprised of photographs of various golf tournaments hosted at the Desert Inn Country Club in Las Vegas, Nevada collected by Welch throughout his career as the Desert Inn's head golf professional. In particular, the collection includes two photograph albums depicting the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Sealy golf tournament in the early 1970s and a 25th anniversary Desert Inn Country Club commemorative photograph book from 1981.

David Ober oral history interview

Abstract

Oral history interview with David Ober conducted by Stefani Evans on October 11, 2017 for the Building Las Vegas Oral History Project. In this interview, Ober discusses his upbringing in Tucson, Arizona and talks about his parents’ careers. He recalls moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1989 to work for his father’s home building business, R. A. Homes, and opening his real estate company, Jorant Commercial. Ober describes joining Temple Beth Sholom, his involvement with the Southern Nevada Home Builders Association, and developing the Desert Shores community.

Abstract

Oral history interview with Pamela and Stephen Grogan conducted by Barbara Tabach on June 30, 2014 for the West Charleston Neighborhoods: an Oral History Project of Ward 1. In this interview, Pamela discusses her upbringing in Illinois and early interests in cooking. She talks about moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1999 and her employment at Sur La Table. Stephen recalls forming the Colorado Gaming Owners Association, his involvement in gaming consulting, and beginning a career as a writer.

UNLV Libraries Collection of Gaming Research Files

Abstract

The UNLV Libraries Collection of Gaming Research Files is a collection of materials that date between approximately 1900 and 2019. The collection mainly consists of materials relating to conferences and expositions, gaming research files, and gaming technology and equipment catalogs. The conference and exposition materials include registration books, pamphlets, and printouts. The gaming research contains annual reports from different casinos and universities, as well as newspaper clippings and website printouts.

Kathleen Kahn Mahon oral history interview

Abstract

Oral history interview with Kathleen Kahn Mahon conducted by Barbara Tabach on December 03, 2018 for the Southern Nevada Jewish Heritage Project. In this interview, Mahon discusses her family’s upbringing in New Mexico and talks about her Jewish education as a child. Mahon describes her family’s role in the founding of Congregation Albert in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Temple Beth Shalom in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She then talks about moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1980, taking on a pediatric ophthalmologist position, and being involved in the pediatric community.

Polly and Jack Weinstein oral history interview

Abstract

Oral history interview with Pauline "Polly" and Jack Weinstein conducted by Barbara Tabach on April 12, 2018 for the Southern Nevada Jewish Heritage Project. In this interview, Jack talks about his upbringing in Detroit, Michigan and getting into the jewelry business. He talks about owning a wholesale jewelry business, relocating to Los Angeles, California, and forming a partnership with Tower of Jewels in Las Vegas, Nevada in the late 1950s. Jack recalls becoming the sole proprietor of Tower of Jewels in Las Vegas and describes his clientele.

Abstract

Oral history interviews with Glenn Tredwell conducted by Barbara Tabach on March 04, 2016 and April 14, 2016 for the Southern Nevada Jewish Heritage Project. In the first interview, Tredwell discusses his family ancestry and his Orthodox Judaism upbringing. He talks about his childhood in Atlantic City, New Jersey and describes his family’s Christmas tree farm, potato farm, and wholesale produce business. He talks about his move to Florida, working at Lum’s, a hot dog restaurant, and further explains the company’s franchise success.

Abstract

The Tom Hribar Collection of Nevada Southern University Memorabilia (1965-1967) is comprised of newspaper clippings, programs, and publications primarily created by the Confederated Students of Nevada Southern (CSNS) that were collected by Tom Hribar, the former student body president of Nevada Southern University (NSU). Publications include student handbooks and directories.

Marcy and Jack Simon oral history interview

Abstract

Oral history interview with Marcy and Jack Simon conducted by Barbara Tabach on May 16, 2018 for the Southern Nevada Jewish Heritage Project. In this interview, Marcy and Jack discuss their personal backgrounds and meeting one another in Los Angeles, California in 1964. Jack talks about his work building homes in the San Fernando Valley, earning a contractors license, and how Marcy became involved in the contracting business.
