The collection materials include archived websites, Twitter data, and official emails sent to the UNLV campus community.

Abstract

Oral history interview with Eugenia and Elijah Green conducted by Claytee D. White on January 20, 2017 for the African Americans in Las Vegas: a Collaborative Oral History Project. In this interview, Elijah discusses his upbringing in Las Vegas, Nevada and growing up in the Westside. He recalls his father’s employment at the Basic Magnesium Plant, attending the Westside School, and the recreational activities he participated in as a young adult. Elijah talks about becoming a card dealer, his employment at the El Morocco Motel, and the businesses on Jackson Street.

Oral history interview with Clinton Wright and Aaron Mayes conducted by Barbara Tabach on February 21, 2017 for the African Americans in Las Vegas: a Collaborative Oral History Project. In this interview, Wright discusses being a photographer of the Westside community in Las Vegas, Nevada. He recalls creating his first photographic prints, being a freelance photographer, and experimenting with photography techniques. Wright talks about his employment with the Las Vegas Voice newspaper, and the types of jobs he was assigned while working there.

In this interview, Van Epp discusses his upbringing in Virginia. He talks about his initial interest in architecture, moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1995, and becoming President of the Howard Hughes Corporation. Van Epp recalls the development of Summerlin, the increase of homes being built in that area, and the construction of the I-215 Beltway.

Oral history interview with Cranford Crawford conducted by Claytee D. White on May 27, 2016 for the African Americans in Las Vegas: a Collaborative Oral History Project. In this interview Crawford discusses his early life and moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1964. He talks about his involvement with the Las Vegas branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), working with African American community leaders, and the consent decree of 1971 alleging a series of violations of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas Department of Theatre Records (approximately 1960-2017) are mainly comprised of the records of Ellis Pryce-Jones who was a faculty member in the Theatre Arts Department from 1972 to 2004 and Jerry L. Crawford who served as chair of the Theatre Department and the Dean of the College of Fine Arts. Records mainly represent shows produced by the Theatre Arts Department as well as documenting the evolution of the department over the years.

The William F. Harrah College of Hospitality Records on UNLVino are comprised of materials (1974-2020) that document UNLVino, an annual wine tasting event organized by Southern Glazer's Wine and Spirits and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas' William F. Harrah College of Hospitality in Las Vegas, Nevada. The materials in this collection includes press coverage, various promotional and marketing materials, event photographs, and event planning documents.

El Rancho Vegas Newspaper Clippings

Abstract

The El Rancho Vegas Newspaper Clippings (approximately 1990-2004) primarily contains copies of newspaper clippings from 1940 to 1948 on the El Rancho Vegas from the Las Vegas Evening Review-Journal. The collection also includes copies of newspaper clippings on the Thunderbird Hotel and Casino and Club Bingo. The materials in this collection were collected by Joyce Moore for her research as a history graduate student at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Abstract

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) Dean of Libraries Records (approximately 1994-2017) consists mainly of subject, budget, committee, and research files from Patricia Iannuzzi who served as Dean of UNLV Libraries from 2005 to 2017. The records in this collection cover topics including the Libraries' budgets, planning for the Health Sciences Library, and general space planning. The collection also includes Ianuzzi's research files on information literacy and general education.
