Abstract

Oral history interview with Mario Berlanga Jr. conducted by Claytee D. White on July 26, 2017 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. In this interview, Berlanga discusses his upbringing in Las Vegas, Nevada and growing up in the Westside community. He discusses his experience working at supermarkets, becoming a supermarket owner, and establishing his business, Mario’s Westside Market. Berlanga talks about supporting the children of the community, working with the local police, and the growth of his business.

Oral history interview with Kathleen Becker and Ernest A. Becker IV conducted by Claytee D. White and Stefani Evans on January 30, 2017 for the Building Las Vegas Oral History Project. In this interview, Kathleen and Ernest IV discusses their upbringing in Southern California. Kathleen talks about her father’s career as a landscape architect, and his involvement with the design of the El Rancho Hotel and Casino. Ernest IV discusses his family’s involvement in Las Vegas, Nevada development, building shopping centers, and building homes during the 1960s.

Oral history interview with Maxine and Jack Cason conducted by Claytee D. White and Stefani Evans on September 22, 1016 for the Building Las Vegas Oral History Project. In this interview, Jack discusses his early life in Oklahoma and arriving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1950. He recalls the formation of Saveway Super Service, Philips 66 service stations, the competition in the fuel industry, and the opening of the first Rebel service station. Jack talks about fuel terminals, fuel bulk plants, and becoming one of the largest fuel providers in southern Nevada.

Michael Don Fraser oral history interview

Abstract

Oral history interview with Michael Don Fraser conducted by Claytee D. White on September 15, 2017 and September 29, 2017 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. In the first interview, Fraser discusses his early life in Osage County, Oklahoma. He talks about being a member of the Boy Scouts of America, attending the University of Tulsa, and his early interest in paper preservation. Fraser recalls working at his first conservation laboratory and repairing books.

Oral history interview with Mike Mullin conducted by Claytee D. White on September 06, 2019 for the Building Las Vegas Oral History Project. In this interview, Mullin discusses his early life in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania and moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1973. He recalls becoming a craps dealer, going into real estate, and establishing his company, Nevada Hand. Mullin talks about his company’s work to provide high-quality homes and supportive services for working families and seniors with fixed incomes.

Abstract

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) Office of the Vice President for Research Records (1990-1992) mainly contains researcher grant proposal files kept by Dr. David McNelis who was the Associate Vice President for Research at UNLV from 1990 to 1994. Materials include applications, reports, and correspondence related to the Cray Research, Inc. and National Supercomputing Center for Energy and the Environment as well as applications for various UNLV research support grants.

Pablo Macias oral history interview

Abstract

Oral history interview with Pablo Macias conducted by Elsa Lopez, Monserrath Hernandez, and Claytee D. White on December 07, 2019 for the Latinx Voices of Southern Nevada Oral History Project. Pablo Macias was rasied in the small town of Carlin outside of Elko, Nevada. His father and mother met in Ogden, Utah where his father was working on railroad in Nevada and Utah. After finishing high school, he got a job at Elko Blacksmith Shop, where he learned to weld. After attending Northern Nevada Community College, he enrolled and graduated from UNR.
