The Carol Corbett Papers, 1981-2006, contain papers from Nevada organizations, Clark County offices, and general biographical and geographical information. Included are Corbett Recorder Scholarship and Hoggard Memorial Scholarship data, files for the Clark County Recorder's Office, Clark County Credit Union, Records Management Policies and Procedures, a District Attorney Opinion Project, Nevada Women's History Project, Nevada History Archives, and the State Historical Records Advisory Board (SHRAB) files. There is also information on gay issues. Materials also include slides and photographs.

Scope and Contents Note

The Carol Corbett Papers, 1981-2006, contain papers from Nevada organizations, Clark County offices, general biographical information, and Nevada geographical information. Included are Corbett Recorder Scholarship and Hoggard Memorial Scholarship data, files for the Clark County Recorder's Office, Clark County Credit Union, Records Management Policies and Procedures, a District Attorney Opinion Project, Nevada Women's History Project, Nevada History Archives, the State Historical Records Advisory Board (SHRAB) records, and files on gay issues. Materials also include slides and photographs of St. Thomas, Nevada buildings showing through at Lake Mead, Nevada Test Site landscapes, and the original Las Vegas water facilities, (now Springs Preserve) in Nevada. Most photographs and slides are described by topic. The exception is photographs of Nevada County courthouses that are sleeved individually.

Collection is divided into four sets of material:

I. General;

II. Nevada papers;

III. Clark County papers;

and IV. Slides and photographs.

Materials remain in original order.

Biographical / Historical Note

Historical researcher Carol Corbett moved to Las Vegas in 1969. She earned an Associate of Science Degree in data processing at Community College of Southern Nevada and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration/Finance at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). She owned her own consulting firm specializing in archival management.

Corbett was formerly an archivist for the Women's Archives in the Special Collections Department at UNLV, and a systems analyst and Assistant County Recorder. She worked closely with former State Senator Jean Ford to establish the Nevada Women's History Project and served as its first historian. Corbett served on the State Historical Records Advisory Board (SHRAB) for 18 years and was also a board member of the County Fiscal Officers Association, and the Clark County Credit Union. She was also a delegate for the Southern Nevada Association of Pride, Inc.

As of 2015 Carol Corbett lives in the Las Vegas area and continues to be active in recording and preserving Nevada history.

Acquisition Note

Materials were donated in 2006 and 2014 by Carol Corbett; accession numbers 2006-024 and 2015-045.

Processing Note

These papers are not fully processed. An inventory of the accession was created by Joyce Moore in 2015. To prepare the inventory, the described materials were reviewed to create a contents list, estimate dates, and identify material types. Photographs and slides have been sorted and sleeved by topic.
