Abstract

The Elton and Madelaine Garrett Photograph and Architectural Drawing Collection contains photographic prints and architectural drawings of Boulder (Hoover) Dam; Las Vegas, Nevada; Boulder City, Nevada; and other locations in the American Southwest from approximately 1927 to 1990. The photographs primarily depict Hoover Dam's construction and areas around Hoover Dam, Las Vegas, and Boulder City during the 1930s and 1940s. The bulk of the architectural drawings and maps are projects and diagrams related to the planning and development of Boulder City, Nevada between 1943 and 1985.

Promotional video for Stardust Hotel and Resort showing amenities including the pool, dining options, interior of hotel rooms, sports and gaming, and various entertainment programs available; voiceover describing everything while short clips show onscreen, ends with a phone number to call; same ad runs twice. Second segment is promotional video for the Meadows Mall Christmas display with the slogan of "Meadows Mall means Christmas"; second segment appears to be b-roll for the same Christmas village promotional video with music playing over the same shots of the holiday display. Third segment is Monte Hale appearing in a promotional video for the Frontier Hotel; he walks through the hotel, dining, entertainment options while in Western-style clothing and at times, riding a horse. Same Meadows Mall clip runs again. Original media U-matic S, color, aspect ratio 4 x 3, frame size 720 x 486.

Abstract

Oral history interview with Patricia Morse Jarman conducted by Claytee D. White on May 01, 2018 for the African Americans in Las Vegas: a Collaborative Oral History Project. In this interview, Jarman discusses her early life and joining the United States Air Force. She remembers moving to North Las Vegas, Nevada in 1974, being stationed at Nellis Air Force Base, and her decision to stay in Las Vegas after her military service. Jarman talks about her interest in sports analytics, becoming a boxing judge, and being appointed to the Nevada Consumer Affairs Commission. Lastly, Jarman discusses working with local government to prevent the development of apartment buildings on golf courses, and the 1 October shooting.

Oral history interview with Sandy Daly conducted by Bud Stephen on June 20, 1972 for the Ralph Roske Oral History Project. Daly moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1947 and she describes her educational experiences and how the gaming industry related to her upbringing. Stephen also asks questions relating to politics, religion, social club membership, theater, recreational activities for children and adults, atomic testing, tourism, local sports, television, prostitution, social class, and the development of the Strip. Interview includes audio recording (analog, digital) and transcript (digital).
