Description

News release by the Las Vegas Valley Water District reporting that they had formally requested the state attorney general to review and state officially the legality of the District's plans to install water meters in Las Vegas. Statement included opinions from the law firm of O'Melveny & Myers and the District General Counsel Leo A. McNamee. Document has stamp of the Union Pacific Rail Road's law department dated October 26, 1955. Also initials stamp by E. E. Bennett dated October 27, 1955.

Abstract

The Colorado River Commission of Nevada Reference Library Collection (1922-2000) documents the history of the Colorado River Commission (CRC) and is predominately comprised of books, briefs, memoranda, motions, exhibits, and other documents pertaining to the Arizona v. California litigation occurring between 1931 and 2000. The collection also contains meeting minutes, correspondence, budgets, reports, and other work files relating to the CRC. The CRC, located in Las Vegas, Nevada, is responsible for managing and protecting Nevada’s Colorado River water and power resources.

Morrison, Jane Ann

Jane Ann Morrison transferred to Las Vegas from Fort Smith, Arkansas, where she had worked as a newspaper reporter. The Donrey Media Group owned the Southwest Times Record newspaper in Fort Smith along with the Las Vegas Review Journal. In 1976, she became a night cop chasing stories that required a police response. Three years later, Jane Ann went over to the Nevadan, a portion of the paper that allowed a more in depth reporting style.

Aria (Hotel-Casino)

Aria Hotel and Casino is one of the properties in CityCenter, next to the Vdara and the Mandarin Oriental. It is a 4,004 room property, owned by MGM Resorts and built in 2009, is actually two interlocking buildings, semi-circular in shape. The hotel boasts 15 restaraunts as well as a 300,000 sq ft. convention space and a fine art collection.

From the Howard Cannon Photograph Collection (PH-00192). The Nevada Air National Guard is headquartered at the Nevada Joint Force Headquarters, in Carson City, NV. The Nevada Air National Guard maintains a presence in three of the state's 17 counties with a 64-acre (260,000 m2) site on the southwest corner of the Reno-Tahoe International Airport in Reno, a detachment on Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas and at Creech Air Force Base in Indian Springs.
