Description

Old stage coach sits next to a bus headed for the Hoover Dam. The side of the coach reads "No. 1 Las Vegas Tonopah Reno Stage Lines," and the back advertising reads "THROUGH SERVICE FROM RENO NEV. TO PHOENIX ARIZ." The bottom of the coach's bumper reads "U.S. Mail." The written inscription with the photograph provided by the donor says "The Start---Pioneering LV Tonopah-Reno Stage"

Press release describes Army Air Forces circling over Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles to salute Howard Hughes, who was recovering the from the crash of his XF-11 aircraft. Contains texts of telegrams to Hughes from Army Air Forces Commanding General Carl Spaatz and Twelfth Air Force Brigadier General John P. Doyle.

Abstract

The Charles P. and Delphine Squires Papers from 1882 to 1964, with bulk dates from 1905 to 1964, contain book and short story manuscripts, articles, press releases, newspaper clippings, and radio scripts written by Squires and his wife, all relating to their early life in Las Vegas. Also included are report cards, certificates, Parent Teacher Association material, Mesquite Club records and church activity materials.

Gibson, Rachel Ann, 1913-2004

Rachel Gibson was the granddaughter of Nevada pioneers. Rachel was born in 1913 in Yerington. Her 1930 class was the first to graduate from Las Vegas High School, and Rachel received her Bachelor's degree from the University of California at Berkeley. She taught first in Boulder City, then at the J.T. McWilliams Elementary School in Las Vegas. Rachel also was active in many community groups. Rachel passed away on April 25, 2004.
