Kay Dwyer was born August 30, 1934 to James and Eileen Crawford. Her father attained a job as an accountant with Basic Magnesium Incorporated in 1942. This moved the family to Henderson, Nevada, which was a brand new community in the early 1940s. In 1952, Dwyer graduated from Basic High School and then moved to Los Angeles, California to attend Pepperdine University for two years. She moved back to the Las Vegas, Nevada area and started a family with Stanly Hardy with whom she had three children.
Geoconda Argüello-Kline was born July 7, 1955 and was raised in Nicaragua. She left Nicaragua in 1979 as a political refugee and settled in Miami, Florida. The wages there did not allow her to take care of her family, so she moved to Las Vegas, Nevada following family members who had taken union jobs upon their arrival. She joined as well and worked as a guest room attendant for eight years.
Oral history interview with José Eliqué conducted by Barbara Tabach on January 17, 2018 for the Remembering 1 October Oral History Project. In this interview, José Eliqué discusses his responsibilities as the Associate Vice President and Chief of Police for the Department of Police Services at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). He talks about the Police Services Department and its mission to maintain a safe environment on campus. Eliqué discusses the night of the October 1, 2017 shooting and the procedures in place that helped the police officers and detectives support the survivors who made their way to the UNLV campus. He also provides details about using the Thomas & Mack Center as a place of refuge for survivors. In addition to his work in Las Vegas, which started when he moved to the city in 2000, Eliqué discusses his service in the US Navy and his career history in New York City and Chicago, Illinois.
Oral history interview with Jaki Baskow conducted by Claytee D. White and Stefani Evans on October 14, 2024 for the Game On! The Oral History of Las Vegas Sports project. In this interview, Baskow recalls arriving in Las Vegas, Nevada from New Jersey in 1976. She shares her early years running her own talent agency, and how her first client was Suzanne Sommers. Baskin recalls various businesses, business associates, and clients over time; and shares her thoughts on brand building, representing clients, and serving on the Super Bowl Host Committee. Baskow remembers how the Vegas Golden Knights became closely integrated into the Las Vegas community after the 1 October 2017 shooting. Local news segments report on the Stardust Hotel's Lido show's final performance. The show closed after 59 years. Dancers, showgirls, and other previous cast members gathered at a local bar to pay tribute to the show including a brief clip with Donn Arden (show producer). The segments note that it will be replaced by a new show at the Stardust that will include Bobby Berosini and his organutans, as the Stardust is "heading in a new artistic direction." Some of the segments include a brief history of the show, with black and white stills from previous performances. Valda Esau, a former performer, speaks on the show's history. Ted Lorenz, the new "Enter the Night" producer, speaks on the new show, and Linda Anderson, a showgirl, speaks on the sadness of the "Lido" show ending. Oral history interview with Dr. John P. Watkins conducted by Claytee D. White on April 29, 2009 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. Dr. Watkins talks about his schooling, his medical career, and medicine and medical practitioners in Las Vegas, Nevada from the mid-1950s. He recalls how he met his wife, Frances (née) O’Rourke, and the Las Vegas places he, Frances, and their sons John and Brian lived. In particular, he describes their Desert Inn Country Club neighbors and neighborhood, where he and his family lived for fourteen years. He then discusses Las Vegas as a gateway to outdoor activities.
