Frederiksen, Sigurd, 1881-1965

Danish-American composer and violoncellist, Sigurd Erhard Frederikson was born in Copenhagen, Denmark on February 27, 1881 to Sigrid Marie Elisabeth Topsoe and Christian Erhard Frederikson. Frederikson studied at the University of Copenhagen and graduated in 1901. After studying under Ernest Hvberg, Franz Neruda, and Professor Matthison-Hansen and performing in the Royal Carl Rosa Opera Company, he moved to the United States in 1912 and began working as a solo violoncellist in the Cincinnati, Ohio Symphony Orchestra for six years. Frederikson then worked for the Detroit, Michigan Symphony for two years, and the Los Angeles, California Philharmonic for thriteen years. While in Los Angeles, he assisted Adolf Tandler in composing the film soundtracks for Howard Hughes' Hell's Angels (1930).

Frederikson married Antoinette Page on December 2, 1918. He died on February 22, 1965 in Los Angeles.
