Nevada Historical Society Photograph Collection

Abstract

The Nevada Historical Society Photograph Collection contains photographs of Nevada from 1873 to 1951. The photographs primarily depict the towns of Pioche, Candelaria, and Tonopah in the early-twentieth century. The photographs also depict Nevada Governor Emmett D. Boyle and U.S. Senators William M. Stewart and Key Pittman. The collection contains two images related to the Women's Suffrage movement, including Governor Boyle signing a resolution in favor of the Nineteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution and Anne Martin's campaign for the U.S. Senate in 1918. Lastly, the photographs also depict mining operations in Bullionville and Candelaria.

Abstract

The Central Nevada Historical Society Photograph Collection (1880-1982) contains photographs from central Nevada towns, mines, and railroads. The photographs primarily depict events and mining operations from the early-twentieth century in or around Tonopah, Goldfield, Belmont, Manhattan, Montezuma, and Big Smoky Valley. The photographs also depict the Tonopah & Goldfield Railroad, the Las Vegas & Tonopah Railroad, the "Priscilla" nuclear bomb test at the Nevada Test Site, horse-drawn freight carriages, and building construction. Other towns also featured in the collection include Silver Peak, Bullfrog, Rawhide, Ellendale, Columbus, Berlin, Palmetto, Gilbert, Blair, Klondyke, Wahmonie, Diamondfield, Miller's, and Candelaria.

The Southern Nevada Historical Society Photograph Collection on Basic Magnesium, Inc. contains photographs of the construction of Basic Magnesium Inc.'s plants and buildings from 1941 to 1942. The photographs primarily depict aerial views of the plant site and various buildings, including the administration building, tent camp, chlorination buildings, electrolysis facilities, electrical distribution systems, and warehouses. The photographs also depict Lake Mead and the early buildings in Henderson, Nevada.

Abstract

The Blanche Zucker-Bozarth Photograph Collection contains black-and-white and color photographic prints, negatives, and slides of Blanche Zucker-Bozarth between approximately 1980 and 2000. These images depict Zucker-Bozarth attending University Library Society gatherings at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), community fundraisers and events, and award ceremonies. During University Library Society gatherings, Zucker-Bozarth is seen with UNLV Libraries and campus-level administrative faculty and associates. The collection also contains Zucker-Bozarth attending events for the WE CAN (Working to Eliminate Child Abuse and Neglect) Fundraiser and the President’s Child Safety Partnership. Other photographs include Zucker-Bozarth holding the Chicago Award, Zucker-Bozarth posed with Mesquite Club members, and various individuals in Las Vegas and Carson City, Nevada.

Abstract

The Neon in Nevada Photograph Collection contains black-and-white and color photographic slides of neon signs from cities and towns in Nevada dating from 1913 to 1989. The collection includes slides from Las Vegas, Reno, Boulder City, Laughlin, Henderson, Lovelock, Winnemucca, Elko, Wells, McGill, Ely, Eureka, Austin, Hawthorne, and Carson City. The collection also includes slides from the Young Electric Sign Company (YESCO) that depict the "sign graveyard" in Las Vegas, Nevada of broken and retired neon signs.
