Oral history interview with Gene Segerblom conducted by Sheila K. Lefforge on March 24, 1976 for the Ralph Roske Oral History Project on Early Las Vegas. In this interview, Segerblom discusses her personal history living in Boulder City, Nevada after moving there in 1940. Segerblom discusses teaching in Boulder City, the school system, what life was like in Boulder City, and the story behind alcohol legalization in Boulder City, after it was prohibited. Segerblom also discusses Boulder City's growth, how some locals would prefer the town to remain small, the political system in Boulder City, and the relationship between Boulder City and Las Vegas, Nevada.

Abstract

Oral history interview with Denis Lee Askew conducted by Su Kim Chung on August 28, 2015 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. In this interview, Askew discusses Las Vegas, Nevada in the 1950s and 1960s and his experiences working as a busboy at the Sands Hotel in the late 1960s. He discusses seeing shows and recalls watching the Copa Girls show. Later, Askew describes his band, The Universe, and talks about getting a radio show where he discusses the music scene in Las Vegas. Lastly, Askew discusses the changes in Las Vegas and talks about the Music Department at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV).

Gay Kauffman Nevada Test Site Papers

Abstract

The collection includes materials from the Nevada Test Site (1955-1967) including newsletters published by the Reynolds Electrical & Engineering Co., Inc. and photographs of Southern Nevada flora, fauna, and archaeology. It also includes photographs of test explosions at the Nevada Test Site, as well as photographs documenting a visit from North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) officials and a visit from John F. Kennedy to the Nevada Test Site. The collection also contains an oversized poster of an atomic explosion and one of a nuclear rocket development station.
