Description

Dino's Lounge sits at 1516 South Las Vegas Boulevard. The dive bar has been in operation since 1962. Information about the sign is available in the Southern Nevada Neon Survey Data Sheet.

Sign details: This location was originally constructed in 1957. Opened as Ringside Liquors by Eddie Trascher. Trascher sold the property to Rinaldo Dean "Dino" Bartolomucci in 1962. Bartolomucci Renamed it "Dino's". Bartolomucci sold cars in california, moved to Las Vegas in the 1950's. "Dino's" is now owned by his granddaughter Kristin Bartolo.
Sign condition: 4 out of 5, it still lights up brightly at night and has bright paint colors.
Sign form: Pylon as well as signage on the building.
Sign-specific description: Sign on building green cover filtered neon, with a script style design for the name. Road pylon contains skeletal neon with red and white design also stating their name "Dino's" in the same font as the sign on the building. This pylon has a white base that extends out of the main red rectangle portion of the sign. Also below their logo is a back lit plastic sign.

Sign - thematic influences: This sign shows 50's/60's trend with the base of the sign extending out of the main worded portion of the sign. That trend is very common among many other signs across the valley from the same era.

Description

On March 25, 1976, David Anderson interviewed Sherwin “Scoop” Garside (born May 26, 1915 in Tonopah, Nevada) about his life in Southern Nevada. Garside first talks about his father’s business in running an early Nevada newspaper and his personal knowledge of the early mining that took place in different parts of Nevada. He also talks about living in the town of Tonopah, the American Indians who lived in the area, and his experiences from living in Las Vegas. Garside also mentions the beginnings of gambling in Las Vegas, the population boom periods of Las Vegas, and his experiences in witnessing the aboveground atomic testing.

Oral history interview with Chet Buchanan conducted by Barbara Tabach on November 28, 2017 for the Remembering 1 October Oral History Project. Chet Buchanan begins this interview with a discussion of his move to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1999 after he was offered a job as a radio show host for 98.5 KLUC. He talks about the specifics of his job, including his career background as well as the Chet Buchanan Toy Drive. For this interview, he specifically goes into detail on his coverage of the Las Vegas October 2017 mass shooting and discusses being in San Diego, California at the time, yet still striving to reach people through his broadcast with the help of CBS San Diego. Throughout the interview, Buchanan examines his desire to make a difference in the community with his show and his interactions with the public.

The Alan Paine Papers are largely comprised of the works written by poet and screenwriter Alan Paine, including his screenplays, a manuscript for an unpublished book, and Ode to Madonna, a collection of poems published in 1992. The collection also includes correspondence, personal ephemera, and photographs from 1975 to 2002.
