Las Vegas, Nevada Women's Softball Collection

Abstract

The Las Vegas, Nevada Women's Softball Collection (1951-1952) contains photographic prints and negatives depicting a southern Nevada women's softball team. The team was sponsored by Wilson's Texaco Station in Boulder City, Nevada, and the women played in regional games in both southern California and southern Nevada. Photographs in the collection show the team practicing at Peterson Field in Boulder City, and celebrating and spending time together at the Mt. Charleston Lodge. The collection also contains copies of personal accounts written by team member Orpha Alveta Bowman (McBride), who recalls the prejudice some of the lesbian members faced from local community members. The originals of these handwritten accounts are held in MS-01099.

The Las Vegas Rotary Club Records (1981-2022) contain award certificates, club directories and rosters, Las Vegas Rotary publications, commemorative material including a 20-foot by 34-foot velvet curtain. The collection also contains plastic and metal Rotary Club signs from across the United States and international locations, material from a Rotary Club in Africa, and a digital video segment made in 2013 about the history of the Las Vegas Rotary.

The entire stage erupts in Las Vegas' most dazzling production as Frank Sennes and Donn Arden take you on a memorable journey through Hollywood's greatest pictures and stars." Transcribed onto the bottom left newspaper clipping: "A Bubbly Toast - Shriley Kirkes, lead dancer in the Desert Inn's "Pzazz '68" musical spectacular, pours some Champaign for dancers Kathy Kneib, left, and Bonnie Palma for a victory toast to the cast project entry "Pzazz '68" in the Stardust 7-11 off-road dune buggy race. The entire cast spent many months in the building and preparation of the buggy." Transcribed onto the bottom right newspaper clipping: "Extravaganza-Musical production "Pzazz '68" in the Desert Inn Hotel's showroom pays tribute to some of Hollywood's great motion pictures and stars in lavish scenes. This one, in the Mirrored Ballroom, is part of the beautiful 'Astaire Time-A Tribute to Fred.' "

Sean Clark Collection of Las Vegas Entertainment Ephemera

Abstract

The Sean Clark Collection of Las Vegas Entertainment Ephemera (approximately 1940-2004) contains a variety of material relating to different eras of Las Vegas, Nevada entertainment. Included in the collection are newspapers about the 2004 re-release of Howard Hughes' "Two Arabian Nights" film, and draft articles about 1960s entertainment leaders Jack Entratter and George Sidney. Also included in the collection are original photographs of Corinne Sidney with Jack Entratter and others in the 1960s, and Sidney's father's political advertisements that show her as a young girl. A newspaper clipping about Edthye and Lloyd Katz, a 1979 ShoWest award to the couple, and a Huntridge Theater poster document the couple's work in the entertainment industry in the 1960s and 1970s.

The view is from the intersection of Main Street and Bonneville Street looking southeast with the railroad cottages in the background. The railroad cottages were built by the Las Vegas Land and Water Co. for employees of the San Pedro, Los Angeles & Salt Lake Railroad. 64 cottages, filling 4 blocks within Clark's Las Vegas Townsite, were completed in 1911
