Description

Jacques Ribons describes his life during the Nazi occupation of Poland. During the liquidation of the Jewish ghetto, his family decided to turn themselves in to the Germans. They were sent to a prison and separated. He and his brother survived and went to France with the OSE, and came to the United States in 1947.

Description

Black and white image with an exterior view of the home of W. R. Thomas in Las Vegas. The postcard is addressed to Miss Olive Lake, 483 West Center Street, Pomona, California. The postmark is from Las Vegas, Nevada in October 191- (the last number is illegible). The handwritten text on the back reads: "Dear Olive, Received your card a couple of days ago but I tell my lessons take all my time. Have a fine teacher one that knows what he's doing. Gee, I miss you. Will write late Wanda." The handwritten text on the front reads: "I played for the [R.] Church last Sunday night and will play tonight. I want you to write as often as you can."

Abstract

Oral history interview with Paul Huffey conducted by Claytee D. White on February 02, 2010 for the Voices of the Historic John S. Park Neighborhood. Paul Huffey discusses his family moving to the John S. Park Neighborhood in 1947, his father working on the construction of Hoover Dam, and Huffey working at Ronzoni's Department Store when he was in high school. Huffey then discusses graduating from the University of Nevada, Reno and teaching history at Basic High School in Henderson, Nevada for nine years.

Blankinship, Jerome Goss, 1933-2015

Jerome Blankinship was born in Hollywood, California in 1933 to Herman and Helen Blankinship. Jerome grew up as an only child a in suburb of Los Angeles called Huntington Park. He spent his entire childhood in the suburb and finished high school there as well. Then he went on to attend the University of Southern California. He received a degree in education and wanted to be a school teacher, but after a short stint in teaching at the Los Angeles City School District, he discovered that it was not for him.

Lemoine, Melissa (1970 March 22-)

Melissa Lemoine (1970- ) is a teacher at Doral Academy of Nevada and the coordinator of the NextGen program at Congregation Ner Tamid in Henderson, Nevada. She also teaches b’nai mitzvah, conversion, and Hebrew School classes at Ner Tamid. Born March 22, 1970, Lemoine arrived in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1974 and has actively participated in the Jewish community since a young age.
