CLARK COUNTY ASSOCIATION FOR RETARDED CHILDREN JULY NEWSLETTER EDITOR: MARY KIMSEY WRITER: LYNN HOLM P.O. BOX 141, LAS VEGAS, NEVADA PRESIDENT: MIKE PINJUV 878-9707 A NEW STATE PRESIDENT The Nevada Association for Re- tarded Children elected Peter Updike as president. His incoming message "stressed the need of team action between local and state organizations. Then we can call on National and uti- lize all the resources that we can get our hands on for this purpose." ODDS AND ENDS The quilt raffeled for Mother's Day was won by Mrs. Mary Rudoff. She donated the quilt back to the Shop to be resold. $93.00 was realized from this venture. Call editor Mary Kimsey for any ideas or information that could be utilized by the Newsletter. 878-0043 We are adding a new star on our list of donor groups. The Nevada State Constable Association has some legal bon-bons for our organization. Mr. James Muldoon contacted us and said that all items left in hotel rooms for non-payment of bills will be donated to the Thrift Shop. The items will be held for 90 days by the Hotels. Then if the items are not picked up and the bills paid? our organization will receive them. These PERSONAL COMMENT TALE OF THE THRIFT SHOP Dessi Bailey one of our most de- dicated workers in C.C.A.R.C. is retiring as our Thrift Shop Chairman. The Thrift Shop was her brain storm and she fought hard to get it going. Months before .a shop location was found, Dessi was busy as a chipmuck? storing old clothes, and other items to start a shop. Then on June 4th 1962 they rented the building at 1210 E. Lake Mead Blvd. Lo and behold, if she didn't have the.doors open for business two days later on June 6th. The hours, days, months and years of work by her our without comparison. Finally, her dream became the reality of today, as the Shop is the main support of Opportunity Center. Now we come to the cold facts that our group needs a chairman for the Thrift Shop. She doesn't have to have mad dreams and do everything that Dessi has done. Just someone who is interested to keep a record of the volunteer workers and be a go-between the Board and the shop. If this is YOU please call Mike Pinjuv. 878-9707 or 382-4397 By Mary Kimsey CENTER"S SUMMER PROGRAM Opportunity Center's regular school articles will include clothes, luggage, will begin July 6th.
