Abstract

The Stanley Mitchell Photograph Collection (approximately 1900-1980) consists of black-and-white photographic prints. The images portray street scenes and residents from mining communities in Southern Nevada, including Beatty, Alamo, Goldfield, Nye County, Pioche, Carrara, Esmeralda County, and Belmont, Nevada. Other images include officials signing a water bond in Esmeralda County members of the Central Nevada Cattlemen’s Association, and the Little Oasis Market in Alamo.

Abstract

The L. F. Manis Photographs contain photographic prints, photographic slides, and photographic negatives depicting Southern Nevada from approximately 1900 to 1969, with a bulk of the materials dating from 1930 to 1940. The photographs primarily depict the construction, dedication, and various parts of the Hoover (Boulder) Dam, including the dam's upstream and downstream faces, intake towers, spillways, bridges, crest, outlet works, visitors' accommodations, and powerhouse. The photographs also depict Lake Mead, the reservoir created by the Hoover Dam, and the Colorado River, which is dammed by the Hoover Dam. The photographs also include views of desert landscapes in the Southwestern United States, including in Nevada, Arizona, and Southern California. Also depicted in the photographs are the cities of Las Vegas, Nevada and Boulder City, Nevada, including prominent buildings like hotels, casinos, government buildings, and train depots.

The photographs also include the Union Pacific Railroad Depot in Las Vegas, Nevada, the abandoned town of Rhyolite, Nevada, and a mining camp in El Dorado Canyon.

The Horden-Graglia Family Photographs depict the Horden-Graglia Family in Las Vegas, Nevada from 1910 to 1941. The photographs primarily depict Joseph and Frances Graglia and their children John and Anne. The photographs also depict historical buildings, including the Hotel National, the Pair o’ Dice Nite Club, the Union Hotel, and the Las Vegas School. The photographs also include Elinor Horden, who performed as a showgirl in Las Vegas in the 1950s.

The photographs also depict him with politicians and entertainers, and Wilbur and Toni Clark’s house in Las Vegas.

Abstract

The Dennis McBride Photograph Collection (approximately 1904-2018) contains over 5,000 individual photographic prints, negatives, digital images, and postcards that depict various events, people, and locations, across southern Nevada, particularly from the 1960s to the 1990s. The postcards depict a large number of hotels and casinos in cities throughout Nevada including Las Vegas, Tahoe, Reno, and Boulder City. The photographs depict a variety of events held at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Special Collections and Archives, local branches of the Las Vegas Public Library, and local community spaces and stores. The collection also includes a detailed list of photographs from lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) events taking place across Las Vegas from 1996 to 2018 including Pride parades, social gatherings in bars and nightclubs, holiday celebrations, and political marches and demonstrations.
