Perri Family Photograph Collection

Abstract

The Perri Family Photograph Collection (approximately 1950-1959) consists of black-and-white photographic prints and negatives of Las Vegas, Nevada landmarks such as McCarran Field, Last Frontier Village, and the Union Pacific Railroad Depot. The photographs depict the Perri family at these various locations. Also included in the collection are photographs of the Las Vegas Race Track and Las Vegas Fire Department.

Countess, Jerome D.

Jerome Countess was born on December 22, 1920 in Brooklyn, New York. His mother raised him as a single mother, making ends meet with her job in a clothing factory. Countess's father rarely held a job, and his mother divorced him when Countess was three-years-old. Countess grew up in the borough's Jewish neighborhood, and he developed a reputation for being a skillful handball player and a great dancer.

Neal, Joe, 1935-2020

Joseph M. Neal Jr. was born July 28, 1935. Senator Joe Neal shares many memories of his childhood in Mound, Louisiana. He recalls his mother leaving him and his older brother Willie with a woman named Bea so that she could go to Alexander to get a job. He and Willie were ages 2 and 4, respectively, and were frequently left on their own. Willie would leave periodically for hours at a time and come back with food. He eventually took Joe to meet the couple who were supplying the meals, Mary and Gowens Prayder.
