Florence McClure Papers

Abstract

The Florence McClure Papers (1969-2007) are comprised of writings, correspondence, newspaper clippings, handwritten notes, and assorted publications that focus on McClure's work with women's organizations, her efforts on behalf of the Southern Nevada Women's Correctional Facility, and her political advocacy work. It also contains a large number of reference clippings McClure collected on women's issues from local, national, and international publications.

Bill Willard Photograph Collection

Abstract

The Bill Willard Photograph Collection depicts Las Vegas, Nevada, hotels and casinos in Las Vegas, the Las Vegas Valley, and Laughlin, Nevada from 1905 to 1919 and from 1940 to 1999. The photographs primarily depict hotels and casinos in Las Vegas, including the Sahara Hotel, Circus Circus Hotel and Casino, MGM Grand Las Vegas Hotel and Casino, Caesars Palace, Flamingo Hotel, and the Aladdin Hotel. The photographs also depict students at Nevada Southern University (predecessor of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas), the city of Las Vegas, industrial plants in Henderson and Apex, Nevada, and events in Laughlin, Nevada.

David Rea Collection of Howard Hughes Publicity Photographs

Abstract

This collection is comprised of publicity photographs of Howard Hughes and his aircrafts, from approximately the 1940s to the 1950s, that were compiled by David Rea, former pilot for Hughes Aircraft Company. This collection also includes clippings and technical drawings of Hughes aircrafts.

Lift Up Windsor Park Project Collection

Abstract

The Lift Up Windsor Project Collection (approximately 2020-2023) contains digitized copies of North Las Vegas, Nevada City Council meeting minutes, geological and environmental impact statements, and other types of documentation originally published from the 1950s to 2010s that were collected by Sebastian Ross, graduate student at UNLV's Boyd School of Law and an archived version of the Lift up Windsor Park project website. Assemblywoman Dina Neal (now Nevada State Senator) led the project, which included faculty and students from UNLV's film department and law school, to research and advocate for Windsor Park, one of the first all-Black housing communities in North Las Vegas that was developed in the 1960s. The records in this collection represent the research material used for Windsor Park: The Sinking Streets documentary that tells the story of how the neighborhood was developed on top of an aquifer and seismic faults which have damaged homes over the past five decades.

Abstract

The Charles Vanda Photograph Collection, approximately 1960 to 1988, contains black-and-white and color photographic prints with some corresponding negatives of Charles Vanda with colleagues and friends from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). The images depict Vanda at UNLV sporting events, graduation ceremonies, and other campus events. Also included are some images from fellow musicians, entertainers, and producers associated with Vanda.

Blanche Zucker-Bozarth Photograph Collection

Abstract

The Blanche Zucker-Bozarth Photograph Collection contains black-and-white and color photographic prints, negatives, and slides of Blanche Zucker-Bozarth between approximately 1980 and 2000. These images depict Zucker-Bozarth attending University Library Society gatherings at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), community fundraisers and events, and award ceremonies. During University Library Society gatherings, Zucker-Bozarth is seen with UNLV Libraries and campus-level administrative faculty and associates. The collection also contains Zucker-Bozarth attending events for the WE CAN (Working to Eliminate Child Abuse and Neglect) Fundraiser and the President’s Child Safety Partnership. Other photographs include Zucker-Bozarth holding the Chicago Award, Zucker-Bozarth posed with Mesquite Club members, and various individuals in Las Vegas and Carson City, Nevada.
