Kathy Eastland Papers

Abstract

The Kathy Eastland Papers (1972-2003) document Kathy Eastland's experiences working in Nevada brothels. Materials include ephemera and memorabilia collected by Eastland from various brothels in Nevada such as the Mustang Ranch, the Moonlite BunnyRanch, and Old Bridge Ranch. Included in the collection are brothel menus and photographs of Eastland and other sex workers socializing in the brothels. The collection also contains notes, research, and drafts of Eastland's manuscript Hell on Heels which describe her experience working in the brothel industry. Also included are prototypes of a game created by Eastland called "Brothelopoly" and some campaign materials about Jessi Winchester, a former brothel worker who ran for public office in Nevada. There is a small amount of materials about Joe Conforte, former owner of the Mustang Ranch, and some personal effects of Eastland including a motorcycle jacket and storage trunk.

Junior League of Las Vegas Oral History Project

Abstract

The Junior League of Las Vegas Oral History Project (2011-2019) consists of five oral history interviews conducted by Carole Terry between 2011 and 2019. Interviewees discuss their experiences living in Las Vegas and being part of the Junior League of Las Vegas. Interviews exist as physical transcripts only; no audio is available.

General Land Office Survey Books

Abstract

The General Land Office Survey Books (approximately 1881-1919) consist of nine bound volumes of survey maps originally conducted in 1881 by the General Land Office (which later became the U.S. Bureau of Land Management). The primary information shown on the maps is section, township, and range numbers, as well as designation and dimenstions of government lots. The books in this collection cover townships 13 through 32, which includes the majority of Clark County. The secondary information shown on the maps is topographical and geographical in nature, showing mountains, washes, rivers, major wagon roads, and types of vegetation. The hachure lines along section lines indicate mountains and in all probability those lines were not actually walked. Patent application lists are attached to some maps, which also have property owner's name and address. If the patent was granted, the patent number is also shown. If the patent application nwas withdrawn or forfeited, that notation was also noted.

Las Vegas Gambling Surveillance Collection

Abstract

The Las Vegas Gambling Surveillance Collection (approximately 1990-2007) contains materials presumably from the office of Daniel Schreffler who worked as a surveillance officer for Boyd Gaming Corporation, including the Stardust Casino, during the early to mid-2000s. Materials include print outs and digital versions of CCTV images, Stardust Casino surveillance reports, and alert reports related to gambling and gaming cheaters in Las Vegas, Nevada from gaming investigative services such as Griffin Investigations, SIN Report, and Biometrica Systems. Materials also include Daniel Schreffler's email correspondence and employee related paperwork and documentation from the Stardust Casino.

Maria Pogee Papers

Abstract

The Maria Pogee Papers (1942-2019) document the life and career of Argentinian born dancer, choreographer, and actress, Maria Pogee. Pogee worked extensively in Argentina, Chile, Lebanon, around the United States and in Las Vegas, Nevada. Materials include press clippings, show programs, correspondence, and photographs representing Pogee's entertainment career such as her work in the stage production of Peter Pan and choreography for Juliet Prowse and Shirley MacLaine. Other materials includes various unproduced show concepts with designs, storyboards, and scripts that she worked on with costume designer José Luis Viñas. Materials also include scrapbooks documenting her dance career dating from 1952 to 2009 which contain original correspondence, programs, photographs, and newsclippings. Materials also document Pogee's life and career outside of entertainment including her work directing fashion shows, operating a tourism company, and as a yoga instructor.

The UNLV Libraries Collection of Compton Dancer Consulting reports (2002-2008) contains monthly promotional reports compiled for CDC Gaming by H. Scot Krause. The reports list a variety of promotions at Las Vegas, Nevada casinos including slot tournaments, bonus point redemption promotions, "double point days", service industry deals, and more.

Abstract

[This collection is unprocessed.] The Norma Jean Almodovar Papers (approximately 1980-2023) contain the paper of sex worker rights activist Norma Jean Almodovar. The collection also includes records relating to the nonprofit organization she founded, International Sex Worker Foundation for Art, Culture, and Education (ISWFACE). Almodovar is a former police officer and sex worker, who served a prison sentence for solicitation, and subsequently became an activist for the decriminalization of sex work.

McNamee Family Papers

Abstract

The McNamee Family Papers (approximately 1898-2000) are comprised of family papers of early Nevada settlers, Frank (Francis) Raphael McNamee and Effie Alice Webster McNamee. It contains original family photographs and some documents such as newspaper clippings, award certificates, handwritten deeds, and correspondence about Effie and Frank McNamee Sr., and their eight children, including Frank Jr. and Leo McNamee. There are large folders of photocopied genealogy printouts from Ancestry.com regarding Frank and Effie McNamee.
